I wonder if that seagull laugh he does whenever he tries to address someone confronting him is some kind of nervous tic. Like when he reads a troll contribution,, he says something to put them down, and then immediately squawk laughs to hopefully get people on side because he's ruthlessly insecure. If he had the self-awareness to do so, he definitely would have had a mental breakdown by now.

Phil laughs as a defense mechanism. I can't remember the game, but I remember seeing a clip of him messing up something in a game and then sputtering a few times before he forces a laugh. There was also one time he was playing a fighting game with his mic on and the guy on the other end identified him as the guy who masturbated in front of children and Phil responded "HA HA HA HA YEAH THAT WAS ME HA HA HA HA!" while he desperately looked for the mute button.

I've often wondered if Phil's constant lying and retconning has damaged his already poor memory. Or vice versa.

He was always deluded and retarded, but they've escalated in proportion to each other.

The retention and recall of memories is a key part of intelligence. But Phil has to constantly purge and rewrite his memories in order to protect his ego and maintain all the lies. This happens so regularly that he's given himself brain damage comparable to dementia. Cornpop was a bad dude in the FGC.

Phil has no critical thinking skills, no social intelligence and what memories he did have are rapidly eroding. It'd be nightmarish if not for the fact that its entirely deserved and self-inflicted.
