🤮 Gross Danny Dannels of Mentality Nail Polish

Sorry to double post. Had trouble attaching, here is the old ass blog. Only the first black one is worth looking at, it has the 'courting' line, unless you want to hear him sperg about skates forever. In the end he complains about having to pay 20 bucks to send them back. Lol.

First white is 'Eric from newronsport' looking for sponsors. In the second is Dan's response. He is the only one who replied save from someone wishing him luck. 'Courting' indeed. (Edit: He also talks like it was just sent to him. I think at most he got a discount, if he didn't just buy them outright.)

*Edit again*: This guy does seem to be a record holder though. Key word might be 'seem'.

Looking for something directly from guiness though.

This is not Dan, but this is the record he claims to have... the articles reference this old winner but... I think guiness would have the right current record holder on their website, hmmmm.

Website could just suck, or...

Just as confused as you- seen several records to a 67 day record by this guy..apparently set on the same year as the (currently listed) record holder Rusty, but all these statements are just on various blog/skating sites. Nothing in any mainstream news, and not a single bit on the official records site.
Also confused as to why the story is hosted on what looks like some random asian website with almost no english on it except his "attempt"

His Pinterest (have a look at the first "interest" on the left)

Reading that blog entry on the skates, the irony is so thick you wouldn't be able to suck it through a straw.

This thread might not be the biggest thread but I'm always happy to see it get bumped with new content.

Interestingly enough the random Japanese website has the most complete collection about this skating story gathered in one spot with its links to multiple sites. I am not sure I would have found it if not for the fact that I live in Japan (country location effects search results, right?)
I ran into it from the other end of the world, so I think not, @CatFace . It is, surprisingly, the most complete account..but even then it looks like it's written by Danny (and possibly his mrs), not exactly a reliable sauce.

Whoever would buy their polish, "reformulated" or not, after everything that's happened is an idiot.

I can't tell you guys how glad I am to find all this out, because I was looking at swatches and thinking about checking out Mentality. I've found several really great indie brands through Instagram and it always makes me sad when an indie brand turns out to be really shitty (Glittersniffer in particular comes to mind, the owner of that company would've been cow-worthy while that drama was going down, holy shit).

Thanks @Meowthkip for possibly saving me a lot of money and pain. So glad I've been broke lately.

I have a hard time believing the trans USA record is that slow. That southern route is the easiest crossing, and inline skaters of any skill level are close to the same pace as endurance cyclists. The Race Across America has a much tougher route, almost 500 mile longer distance and a 12 day cutoff, with a solo record of 7.6 days.

He did less than 40 miles per day. 4 hours if he barely worked at it.

Not sure why THAT is what is bugging me about this destroyer of nails... Maybe I caught the tism or something.

Was going to say this later but with that post...

Website March 2007 "finished two weeks ago"?:
http://www.inlineplanet.com/08/03/trans-usa-4.html

Website reporting the world record attempt Jan 2008 'left California'?:
http://www.teamrainbo.com/trans-usa-skating-attempt-by-dan-dannels/

Initial post saying he will finish in California:

http://www.inlineplanet.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1559

Also on a fish forum his wife says he 'involuntarily took a day off' so factor that in. Initial 'world record attempt' post by her Dec 22 2007, his is Dec 13 2007. She says they "made it out of California" Jan 7 2008 same as he did on the teamrainbo site. I'll try and find that link.

I have no idea about times or inline skating or anything but the InlinePlanet journal from March 14 2007 written by him says he finished two weeks ago. That's... hm. He says he 'plans to do it again' in that one but the official Guinness page still has Rusty listed as the record holder.

Sorry to double post, mobile being shitty. The record holder as listed by Guinness did it in 69 days 8 hours and 45 minutes. Approx. 2595 miles average about 38 miles a day.

http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com...ca-on-inline-skates-(or-roller-skates)-(male)

Dan says he did it in 67 days 10 hours and 45 minutes. As I said above his wife says on another forum that he took a day off (technical difficulties apparently, found the link) http://www.houstonfishbox.com/vforums/showthread.php?21252-World-Record-Attempt

As far as I know the man listed in Guinness is the only one to have done it before so I assume it was more of a 'make a world record' thing than trying to exhibit skating skill. I dunno. Dan seems to genuinely like skating so I don't think it'd be hard to break a leisurely record. Compared to cycling inline skating has little interest.

Either way nail destroyer or no, if he did actually break the record he deserves to be credited on the Guinness site. I'm just curious as to what actually happened.

Sent an enquiry regarding it to the US offices of GWR, it'll be interesting to see if they reply, since the only places where there's information on it are very unreliable/personally involved sources.
If he put the time into attempting this record instead into testing his nail products, he wouldn't have created this horrorshow..

My guess: "It took me longer overall but I had trouble with this and was delayed by that but that shouldn't count, so technically I hold the record; the liberal nanny state guiness people just refused to see it that way."

I recently sent one to GWR and to the websites with the stories. Unfortunately GWR must get a massive amount of emails and these other sites aren't very active.

He also says he is with the 'Texas Flyers' but the only team I can find close to that is the Pegasus Flyers, which is basically a community inline skating meet up, and not any sort of team like "I skate with the Texas Flyers" implies.

I was going to message them and ask if there are any other 'flyer' inline skate groups in Texas, but I can't navigate the website on my mobile. If anyone else wants to feel free. They wouldn't have any record of membership considering it's a non-profit community activity.

http://pegasusflyers.org

@sonichuis44 it certainly seems like something is going on. They raised at least 3000 dollars in donations for this. I am starting to think that they might have message one inline skate website with their story for california-> Florida, then another for the way back? The 2008 one says he aims for under 30 days. What the? I can't find any info about the 2008 attempt past January.

Oh gosh, I often hear interesting theories about how libertarian free market would work. "We don't need government regulation. Even if regulation wouldn't exist, nobody would put strychnine in nail polish. If they found out, customers would buy their nail polish from another supplier. That's how free market works!"
...it's a sobering thought that sometimes people are actually putting that to practice.

Mentality Cosmetics continues to operate as normal. Orders are processing and remakes are shipping under high demand. Shipping notifications are being sent continuously, it is just that from now on, you have to get Mentality from me, I am where Mentality has always come from. I am Mentality. I am an athlete. I am a scholar. I am a musician. I am an artist and a maker, I am also a fighter.

No no, I think it's an important detail. Anything to put him under more scrutiny.

I mean, this is coming from a guy who said he died when he was two.

Given that while walking the dog I can do 10k in 2 hours, without pushing.. (which would equate to this guy's 40k in 8 hours) 40k/day is pretty damn slow for skates..

Might I put forth a bit of a theory in regards to the record? Completely speculative.

Considering the dates and the title of the last of the first set of journals ("plans to do it again"), the fact the other website has a 2008 date and him coming out of California for that attempt. Adding in the factor that I think the record holder listed by Guinness did it as a 'fun run' to make a record.

I think he planned on beating the world record 'twice', once FL-CA then CA-FL. However I cannot find anything for 2008 past what I posted above and 'Rusty' is still listed as the current record holder. In the teamrainbo post he says he aims for a little over 30 days, a much more competitive pace than 67.

Could Dannels have failed to beat the time on the original run but didn't want to say so, or even didn't contact Guinness for the FL-CA run and was just checking if he could beat it? Then tried to make it on the way back under the guise of beating it twice? Got tired/couldn't continue for whatever reason/couldn't meet his 'just over 30 days' goal and just stopped talking about it? Didn't bother going back and admitting he either didn't beat the time or didn't have the go ahead from Guinness?

He has videos on his inlineplanet profile which I can't view (only have mobile, they won't load) titled 'the long skate' which should be related to his 'record attempt' and he had released a free ebook by the same name which no longer seems to be around.
I'll check out the videos next time I am at an Internet cafe but with the information I have this theory seems to fit the dates and would explain why he is not the record holder and why I can't find references past the 2008 teamrainbo post.

Edit: found a Texas Flyers mention that isn't Pegasus

http://www.inlinespeedskater.com/inline-speed-skating-teams.html

Texas Flyers - Mesquite, tx.

The url leads to a dead page bigchili.com/flyers or whatever. What I find in the wayback for bigchili.com:

It's nothing but adds to the weirdness haha.
