Further, self-defense requires fear of immediate and significant bodily harm, if not death, and response must be proportionate. Putting aside home defense situations, the use of potentially deadly force typically requires being on the receiving end of similarly potentially deadly force. Personal physical characteristics and context feed into whether use of deadly force is considered reasonable. A young, presumably healthy male getting swung at by a man of similar or older age and presumable health will be less "reasonable" for pulling out a gun and firing off multiple shots. Especially when the shooting man clearly knew of the possibility - and made a living out of knowingly trying to contrive it.
