D$P's New 2019 'Campaign'

I'm gonna guess hats. Phil is always based on technicalities and grains of truth so hats with his gay shit on it would technically be "something different."

I'm sure it'll be something every streamer already does but, when Phil announces it, it'll be the first time ever that it happens.

It's Christmas merch, so not the 2019 stuff, but:

1) Dean Jones did these designs, and of course Phil couldn't be assed to so much as mention the guy literally anywhere.
2) Dean Jones comments on it and mentions more designs coming for 2019.

So there you go. Feeling good about my prediction for more random merchandise that maybe a dozen fanboys purchase through the year dropping in 2019.

OK, I clicked through Phil's Teespring page. The majority are credited Dean Jones creations. After him, the highest number comes from "Azure Studios" (seems to be a graphic artist in Barbados), with single contributions from "Glory Worm", "Ruben", "Sonny Hay", and "Carlos". In one case, Phil gives credit by saying the design was: "...submitted by...". The designs are "submitted", like they're competition participants. I think these people are getting fleeced...

At least that tweet had a working link to his Teespring page. Before, he kept a link in his pinned schedule. Because the schedule is a screenshot of his writing program, that link was only a screenshot of a link. Now he's deleted even that pretense for a printed web address.

Huh, kudos. You could even wear those shirts in public without getting a big "huuuuuuhn?". Except for the TKOH shirt which comes at a no surprise cuz why would you wear merch with an insider nobody knows or you get in explanatory troubles by trying to explain this wahndafuhl merch has something to do with an angry gamer on Twitch. In other words, neutral merch is best merch.
Also nice single-use-shirt which states Christmas 2018, I dislike money grabbing shirt/shit like this.

Who the hell wears gaming attire on the street.

I only have like 1 Zelda t-shirt and i wear it while i wait for my other clothes in the washer.

A common mistake that even popular YouTubers/streamers make is trying to make money off of merch, especially shirts. It is by no means an instant failure and some of the larger personalities can get away with it, but more often than not, fans don't bite. Part of it is an age range thing. A lot of Twitch/YouTube viewers are in the younger range, either too young to own a credit card or just too young to have disposable income to drop on merch. The merch itself typically ends up being very niche. It's at best a name/logo nobody is likely to recognize, or at worst it's an inside joke or reference that makes no sense out of context/ends up being something the wearer wouldn't want to display for that exact reason. At least with something like a Zelda shirt, it is a recognizable enough franchise where you can get away with it. Same deal with something like a Batman shirt.

If you want to do merch, it works best when it is a very limited time deal done in preparation for some event. That's how GDQ and other events get away with it, they only sell for a very small window, and it's during a time where fans are being consistently hyped up for the event and more likely to impulse buy something.

That's basically the concept bits use. The concept relies heavily on getting viewers to impulsively spend money. One of the few ways DSP is able to generate hype and get money is by complaining about detractors. He gets his loyal paypigs riled up and they impulsively donate/sub/cheer to spite detractors. That works because it is an immediate thing, it would take someone way more clever than DSP to actually spin that into buying merch. You'd think DSP would realize that by now since I can't imagine any of his merch has ever brought him any substantial money, and he certainly doesn't have the energy to try and push it.

Whatever it is, it'll be mediocre and not worth the effort it takes to think about it. Phil has never done anything that was past average, and he's never even thought about doing anything that was innovative. He's a man who sticks to exactly what he's doing and won't change until it's too late. So knowing that my guess is that he will do something that other people have been doing for years but he has shit on and he finally decided to do it.

"It's naht all black and white dooood. Things change, only idiots think things stay the same."

Probably start using his green screen, or some new shirt design.

Remember that Phil is putting up no money and no time for it, so even a single sale is pure profit with no effort. That's why he does it. If that Dean Jones guy ever asked for payent, Teespring would be deemed pointless and dropped immediately.
