It's probably some (poorly) automated spam protection. I had my ebay account banned after I logged in to it for the first time in 2 years to buy some item. And support told me to basically fuck off.

Rare metals and such are a form of wealth, but you'd need a sizeable amount, and preferably not in an existing mint. I can't slap my kiwi coin down at a gas station to pay for the fuel I'm gonna pump, and even if I melted it down, how much would it cost to do so? In addition to the money I've spent getting the coin, I've spent further money trying to get it to a widely acceptable state, realatively speaking.
I generally agree with your takes on money, but get real, nobody is buying these coins to diversify their assets, it's a collectable.
