Years ago, back when I was supportive of troonism, I remember TRAs kept repeating the lie that neovaginas are so realistic, that even gynecologists can't tell the difference. I remember at some point, I decided to find one of these realistic neovaginas and I couldn't find one. They all looked bad. Some could "pass" as a real vagina if the troon kept their legs closed and the camera was far away, but that's it. Up close and inside, it looked absolutely disgusting. There is no way the average person would look at those open wounds and mistake it for a vagina, let alone a professional doctor that has made their entire career studying vaginas.

Anyway, a few weeks ago, I also had the same thought OP had. I was thinking, yes the neovaginas on kiwifarms look like shit, but surely the surgery has gotten better all these years later, and surely, there are some neovaginas that look better and more realistic than the gunshot wounds I looked at years ago.

I can confirm that neovaginas still look gross and not at all real. If anything, they seem to have gotten worse thanks to a new crop of surgeons that all have their own techniques when it comes to chopping off dicks. The scars are so prominent now, older neovaginas seemed to really try to minimize scaring, but these newer ones almost seem like they want you to see scars. I know for top surgery, that is certainly the case, some trans men really like having visible scaring.

As for state of gender reassignment surgery tech, I know some troon doctor is cutting up dicks via robot, but the end results still look like shit, so I don't really get the point.

TL;DR: troon surgery has hardly advanced from the stuff surgeons were doing decades ago.

It's funny. Anywhere else but the Farms, you'd get banned for 'hate speech' or 'graphic imagery' or something similarly banal for posting any sort of post-op pics, unless you're a troon celebrating your own butchery, then it's nothing but praise. Fascinating little phenomena

You're not going to get much honest data on this from official sources because publishing it would be career suicide nowadays.

That reminds me of this one backyard surgeon. (John Ronald Brown, in case you are curious.) He'd had his surgical license removed. A lot of transwomen still went to him because it was the 80s and they didn't have the money to go somewhere better. So he was cheap, but also horrible, and a lot of them would have to seek another surgeon out to try and fix his butchery. Some died. Suing was impossible, because at the time you kept being a transexual to your fucking self.

He would perform surgery drunk and/or high off his ass.

(Ended up getting sent to jail because he cut off somebody dysmorphic’s leg for cheap and the guy died in his hotel room.)

But the crazy thing about this story is... It's not a time anymore where you keep being a transsexual to yourself, but surgeons still have carte blanche. Not backyard surgeons, I think, although poor Mainland Chinese transwomen have resorted to self-castration.

Picture this:

You have a mental illness, fetish, or a sexual trauma you're avoiding confronting.

Everyone's first response when you said you are trans was, "Wait, are you sure?" So you say, "Yes, of course I'm sure, you fucking transphobe!"

You burn some bridges. You built some new bridges.

You might have put your life on hold for a few years to pursue medical transition. Whether you lied to the psychiatrists who have seen you for your referrals is none material. They would have told you that mental illness, a fetish, or sexual trauma are the reason behind every transition. Not in as many words, of course.

But finally the day comes. The surgery. You roll your eyes when cis people call SRS "the" surgery, but you have been doing it in your head for a long time.

And then the result is horrible. Terrible. Everything hurts, nothing works the way you thought it would, dilation is literal bloody misery. Your surgeons tell you, wait for your revision date.

Do you tell people in the meantime how awful it was? That it wasn't what you dreamed of? The people who said, "Are you sure?" whom you couldn't tell, "No, idiot. Can't you see I'm avoiding my other problems!"

No. You wait for your revision date. You have your revision. Your neovagina doesn't hurt anymore and is in functioning order. You dilate only with the smallest size because everything else hurts.

You recommend your surgeon. He was cheap. You warn that he's old-school, sometimes he misgenders people. Online you tell people how great it is to have this surgery.

Not that much has changed, when you get granular.

Yeah, the career climbers’ are all leaning into the alphabet soup. Also saw a particularly horrifying paper in which sigmoid vaginoplasty is posited to be safe for children. Definitely doesn’t scream that a few years from now parents will be medically transitioning their effeminate sons because it’s socially acceptable conversion therapy. Alternatively, it’s intended target are intersex children, which is somehow worse, to me personally.

Yea, I know it's a research area with a big push for certain results and lots of unreliable data. That's also why I'm specifically asking here. I know kiwi farm users (myself included) also tend toward a certain bias, but I imagine asking most other places I would primarily get the mainstream ideologues go-to data or a wikipage with cherrypicked sources.

But i mean we already have to many trooning threads, if you allow me to express my humble opinion, so i think a second thread about trans surgeries is entirely too much.

If you want, you can google the most renown specialists and check out what they put online on their website, that's gonna be the very best of the results, the ones used as advertising to recruit new customers. Then make a post with your findings in the GRS thread.
