Are CRTs based and redpilled?

Very cool. I remember how amazing CP'77 looked on the CRT first time I tried it. The 'depth' and 'plasticity' of the crosswalk surfaces were staggering, compared to what they looked like on an LCD.

BTW, does your monitor have something similar to my Samsung's MagicBright? That's a function that makes the screen brighter in a similar way to HDR. It leaves pure black at its level but raises the rest, making lights very bright (up to around 300 nits) and the whole picture very contrasty.

Don't think so. I'm using a 240hz TN panel Zowie monitor with DyAc+. In short, it's a thing where they strobe the backlight on and off, kind of imitating how a CRT works, it really helps with ghosting. As far as LCDs go, it's the most responsive I've seen. I haven't really messed with picture settings anymore after I set them up the way I like them.

Previously, I had some Asus 240hz monitor but certain FPS games were giving me motion sickness on it. After I got the CRT I made that my main monitor for playing FPS games, but after I got the Zowie I made that my main monitor for everything.

Edit: Wait I'm an idiot, were you asking that about the CRT? If so I have no idea since I don't remember its settings at all, but most likely no.

Just got myself a Dell Trinitron, I didn't realize how high the resolution could be on these, it's absolutely beautiful in person 😊

Been experimenting with software BFI lately. It really improves clarity by a lot on an OLED. Now I want that on the driver level since the few software BFI tools out there are quite janky.

I had no idea that you can do that with just third party software, interesting!
I'll have to check its settings after I set it up again some time next week.
I forgot to reply, I checked, no such thing on my dell crt.

Man, I just moved, and hauling this 36" WEGA Trinitron from place to place is starting to get old. Since I actually own this house I'm hoping It will stay put now for the rest of time. What's even crazier is that I actually use my 13" Panasonic VCR combo way more than this giant. The Trinitron sure is pretty though.

How did people with epilepsy use CRTs? Are CRTs inherently ableist because they can kill epileptics?
CRTs don't flash that strongly. Your persistence of vision just makes it look like a screen, especially at 60Hz. It is my understanding that only specific combinations of colors and patterns cause seizures which is why it wasn't discovered until the "Pokémon Shock" in the 90s. The removal of all flashing from media is just panicky CYA BS.

Played it on steam deck with crt during christmas. Ran like shit but was suprisingly pleasing to play in complete darkness. Sadly that pos game doesn't support 4:3 aspect ratio.

A PS3 and a Jellyfin server is the best way to watch movies & TV through a CRT. I've got a standard 30 inch late 90's set, and the PS3 can even play IPTV channels off the server. Paired with a DTV tuner, and it's all you'll ever really need.

Absolute bastard to take a picture of, but here's my set up. The Jellyfin server shows up as a DLNA media server and a list of folders with the TV shows.

Short story time: Around the time the Overwatch beta came out, I was really curious about high refresh rate monitors. I had never seen one before and I was way too broke to afford one. I heard CRTs can go higher than 60hz and have super low latency so I was curious about them. Well, at the time I was working at Geek Squad in a Best Buy.
One day an older gentleman wheeled in a huge CRT monitor up to customer support. I went right up and asked how I can help him. Of course, he was there to recycle it. I told him it would cost $20 but then I got close and told him I was interested and I'd pay him $20 to take it off his hands. He said, laughing "Absolutely, I'd give it to you for free but you already made your offer!" So, I gave him the cash and wheeled it out to my car.

I had no clue about the CRT market or specs or anything. Turns out it was a Dell Trinitron P990, 19" 1600x1200. I played the OW beta at some scrunched aspect ratio at some whack ass resolution but it was 80hz and looked amazing. And yes, I did play proper stuff like FEAR on it.

(Not my own, that's from the eBay post)
Right now, there's ONE on eBay for $800.
Sad ending, I moved abroad and there's pretty much no way I'm gonna ship it here. It would cost a fortune and God forbid it gets damaged.
It's at my parents' place and I strictly told them, of all my stuff, hold on to that damn monitor, it's a relic.
The Best Buy recycle bin was a treasure trove of cool old stuff. I got a huge widescreen Sony CRT TV, similar story to above, but regrettably I brought it back to recycle because I just couldn't store it. Found a Playstation, in box, it was the old model with the audio outputs that audiophiles sperg over but I had to hide it for a day (there was one front security guy that was a bro and let me sneak out recycled shit, but he wasn't there that day) But on my next shift it was gone, RIP. But I did manage to sneak out an original Model M IBM keyboard, also told the folks to never get rid of that one lol
