it wasnt intended to be a scam, it was intended to simply be internet cash, a currency free from government and bank control.
but then someone figured out that shilling it to gullible normies as ~the next big thing~ would be a good way to get rich, so it got pumped to absurd levels and is now inflated beyond all reason. i'd say less than 1% of bitcoin transactions have anything to do with the intended purpose (paying for goods and services) while 99% are just people doing currency speculation, hoping to get rich when it gets pumped again.

It was a scam invented by CPU and GPU manufacturers to sell expensive, next generation chips to uber-nerds that got out of hand and now they are trying to scale it back.
