Yeah, that’s it - The picture of one of the leaders jumping in a pool is somewhat famous in canyoneering circles. It’s why I remembered the quote and associate it with this case, because of the absurdity of cook pot - not realizing the situation they’ve put themselves in

seems to suggest that expecting her to behave like a lost hiker mislead the investigation as she was so ill-prepared to be lost in the woods that her behaviour couldn't be predicted.

I'm inclined to agree with this assessment. It's the exact same phenomenon that gives rise to the phrase "beginner's luck" in games.

The time of day and what they were doing plays a role here too. They went running in the morning, so I'm assuming they had a tiny or more likely no breakfast. Limited water, as they would be back soon.

So tired, on an empty stomach, little or no water and lost in the woods.

Could be EVEN stupider too, there is an infamous story of a hiker who left the trail to go pee, going so far as to not see the trail because she was worried someone would see her. She got so turned around she never found the trail again and died in the woods.

Also a perfectly logical explanation. And if you really wanted to play up her catholic upbringing that would also play a part in that behavior.

That was Geraldine Largay. She went way off trail, a couple hundred feet, to pee and got lost in the thick woods of middle of nowhere Maine. If you've never been in a real forest, not a park, it's hard to understand how easy it is to get lost. Or it was interdimensional Bigfoot.

@kingfollett, your post reminded me the Death Valley Germans disappeared 30 years ago last week. That story still gives me the willies. It's been pretty hot here, I don't want to think what the temperature is down there.

It’s hitting around 115 during the day in Death Valley currently. I would concur that the young woman got turned around, got lost, and wandered off looking for the trail people underestimate just how quickly things can go south in the wilderness.

Anyway the boy's name escapes me but there's this incident from the early 1990s where this group of 'delinquents' were forced to do this hike thing (think that movie The Long Walk but slow suffering) and one of the boys either got injured or very sick and they still made him continue the trail. He died on the hike (?).

Update: Narvin Lichfield, younger brother of the WWASPS founder Robert Lichfield, either badly faked his death and came back the very next day or someone put up a fake obituary on the day this documentary dropped due to being outed as a child torturer, scammer, and terrible singer. His own daughter apparently had a restraining order against him in 2018 as well. See this post for details.

It’s just after midnight on Friday, May 18th, 2018. Spokane Regional Emergency Communications receives a call reporting that a man is on the ground bleeding badly outside of an apartment building at the intersection of Nettleton Street and Cleveland Avenue. Police and paramedics arrive to find 28 year old Corey Ward bleeding from not less than 10 stab wounds. Ward is able to explain that he had gotten into a fight with an unknown man who then viciously stabbed him. Ward soon becomes unresponsive and dies shortly thereafter. A blood trail leads away from the scene. Police simultaneously search Wards’ apartment, he lives at the building, and get a K9 unit to follow the blood trail.

Inside Wards’ apartment police find drug paraphernalia. That is to say, they find a pipe or a bong. Ward is a pot head. Employed as a line cook at Fairchild Air Force Base, he had no criminal history and had just found out he had a young daughter earlier that week. The mother had concealed the paternity from him though she had died in an accident, and Ward learned of his child as a result. He was pursuing custody.

Before the K9 unit can track the blood trail, there is another 911 call placed from the MacDonald’s at the Shadle Center. Their custodian, 22 year old Logan Clegg, arrived to his midnight shift bleeding from his hand with bruises on his face. He explained that he had been assaulted on his way to work by an unknown man without provocation. Police interview Clegg in the hospital. He sticks to his story. He was walking to work when Ward came out of nowhere yelling at him and then proceeded to repeatedly punch him in the face. Ward was a much heavier man, Clegg claimed he feared for his life, and had no choice but to stab Ward with his pocket knife. The medical examiner rules the death a homicide but prosecutors refuse to file charges. Ward’s mother protests arguing that her son had no history of violence, and spent his free time getting stoned, watching Netflix, and playing video games. Prosecutors explain that a conviction is highly unlikely due to lack of evidence.



To this day, almost nothing is known about Logan Clegg. He was born in 1996 into a Mormon family in either Arizona or Utah. His family were originally from Colville, Washington, a small town with fewer than 5,000 residents. At some point, his family returned to Colville. In 2008, Clegg’s father died in the yard of their house. Police initially investigated the death as a homicide, and questioned the then 12 year old Logan, but later ruled it a suicide in the end. Further details have not been made public. Despite being such a small town, very few residents remember Logan and his parents. He seems to have been an only child who lived an extremely isolated existence. After his father’s death, Clegg reportedly became estranged from his wider family most of whom live in the Colville area.

By the Spring of 2019, Clegg is in Denver, Colorado. Where he lives and how he supports himself is unknown. He flies from Denver International Airport to Paris, France. What he does while in Europe and how he supports himself is unknown. He flies from France to Las Vegas, Nevada in November of that year. Clegg is completely off the grid until August, 2020 when he is arrested for shoplifting at a Salt Lake City, Utah Walmart. He resists the police and is found to be in possession of a stolen .45 calibre pistol. He then challenges the police to fight him one-on-one. Clegg is soon released only to be arrested again on suspicion of burglary weeks later. He once again is found to be in possession of a stolen pistol. Both handguns were stolen during a break-in at a sporting goods store. At this time it is determined that Clegg has been squatting in an abandoned building. Clegg is convicted of several felonies and released on probation.

On June 21st, 2021, Clegg flies out of Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport and lands in Lisbon, Portugal. It is unknown how his felony convictions went unnoticed by customs. An arrest warrant is issued for him later that month when he misses meetings with his probation officer. He remains in Europe until November 7th. It is unclear exactly where he was and how he supported himself. On the 7th, Clegg flies from Munich to Boston, Massachusetts. Despite active felony arrest warrants out of Utah, Clegg is not even detained upon returning to the United States.

It’s February, 2022, Clegg is living in a tent in a wooded area in Concord, New Hampshire. He has been working at a nearby MacDonald’s, where he brags to his colleagues that he has gotten away with shooting someone in the past, but quits his job and travels to Barre, Vermont where he visits R&L Archery. He purchases a Glock 17 and three boxes of 9mm ammunition. He does this by using a forged Vermont driver’s license under the name Arthur Kelly. This transaction is cleared by the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). Clegg returns to New Hampshire but later goes back to Barre to purchase additional magazines.



It’s April 18th, 2022, Stephen and Djeswende "Wendy" Reid, a retired couple in their mid-sixties, leave their apartment at the Alton Woods complex on foot. Stephen and Wendy often walk the nearby Broken Ground Trails. This is where Logan Clegg has been living in a tent for the last several months. For reasons unknown, Clegg ambushes the elderly couple from behind, and fires multiple close range shots to each of their heads. He then drags the bodies to the Marsh Loop Trail and hides them in the woods. This is all done in broad daylight but there are somehow no eye witnesses.

The Reids are reported missing on April 20th when they fail to appear at a family gathering. Police search the Broken Ground Trails and encounter Clegg who gives them the Arthur Kelly ID, which is not detected as a forgery, and tells them that he is backpacking through the area and will soon be on his way. The bodies are found the following day. The police rush back to Clegg’s campsite and find that he has torched the site.

Though he has been living in Concord for months and was even employed for a time, Clegg habitually uses multiple aliases, has multiple fake IDs, and typically only pays for things in cash or with gift cards. It is only after exhaustively canvassing the entire town that investigators learn Clegg had once ordered vitamins online, and had to show ID to pick them up at a GNC location. He showed his real ID when picking up the vitamins.

Police spend six months attempting to locate Clegg without success. Then in October, 2022, the Department of Homeland Security flags a one-way airline ticket purchased by Clegg that leaves JFK International Airport in New York for Berlin, Germany on Friday, October 14th. Police are somehow able to learn which phone Clegg is using, and have Verizon ping it on October 12th. Clegg is at a library in Burlington, Vermont.



When Clegg is arrested he has $7,150 in cash, a Romanian passport with his photo under the name Claude Zemo, the Glock 17 he used to murder the Reids, and the remaining ammunition. Clegg remains fully uncooperative with law enforcement. He is convicted and sentenced to 50 years to life, and launches an ultimately unsuccessful appeal. In the years since his arrest, reports have attempted to locate his mother and other close relatives in the Colville area. Local residents have consistently told reporters that no one has seen a close relative of Clegg’s in years, and are only able to point them to distant relations who have never had much contact with Clegg.

Many questions remain and will likely never be answered. Did he murder his own father at the age of 12? Why did he get into an altercation with Corey Ward? What did he do while in Europe? How did he support himself? How did he obtain so many forged IDs? Did he get away with shooting someone as he had told his coworkers? Why did he kill the Reids? Where did he get the $7,150 when there’s no evidence of him working for more than a few months over the course of his entire life?

The guns and fake IDs could be procured through any of the later versions of The Silk Road and then shipped to an abandoned or empty address. Not being flagged for having felony convictions when flying internationally is strange. I'm doubting he's a CIA hitman.

No mention of crypto came up, but that is the most logical explanation for the IDs. I don't see this guy having underworld contacts. It's suspected that he stole the guns in Utah.

It was revealed during the 2000s that America was running an “extrajudicial” prison in Romania that was shut down in 2006 when its existence became known to the public. It was reported that high level Al-Qaeda members like Khalid Sheikh Mohammed were there for several years. Similar prisons were later found to be in Poland and Lithuania upon further investigation.

I think Clegg glows bright. Crypto could explain the IDs and the cash but doesn’t explain how up until now he skipped out on numerous felonies, got past numerous systems, etc.
