The murder of Janet Shirar is both utterly haunting and infuriating with how little progress was made towards anything resembling a useful angle of investigation, let alone an actual suspect. What gets to me is the insistent, vague details around "The Girl" who became the center of the investigation despite there being no previous witness accounts, no physical or vocal description, and no real effort to confirm whether or not Janet's murderer was an adult or child. "She" might as well have been an urban myth and not a suspect. You would think, given the brutality of the murder scene, that a rough approximation of the suspect would emerge, and then a composite sketch.

I have no idea how a case is allowed to go on in such a state, "The Girl" angle sounds more and more like a diversion.

This is another one where it feels like large chunks of evidence is being withheld to preserve a narrative, this time with Janet being a lesbian.

On April 8, 2005, this unidentified man took his own life with a Taurus Model 65 revolver while on the outer deck of a BC ferry travelling from Horseshoe Bay north of Vancouver to Departure Bay in Nanaimo, British Columbia.
He had blue eyes and red or blond hair, and may have been wearing a black leather cap.

On April 8, 2005, the blood and brain matter from a male was found on the outer deck of a ferry travelling from Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay in British Columbia. A loaded revolver with one spent round was found nearby. He may have worn a black leather cap, and was likely despondent when last seen alive.

The earlier description gives a better idea of what might have happened; the man took his life with the gun and fell into the sea, leaving only blood and brain matter behind which is why his description is so vague. I have no idea why they would remove that.

Always found this unidentified person case to be a bit odd.

Dude drops dead in a supermarket in a relatively populated city, is taken to hospital and has pretty current/decent photos, but no one has come forward to identify him.

Another unidentified case involves a bank robbery in Kenora, Ontario. For those not familiar with Kenora, it is a pretty isolated/small town in Northern Ontario.

A man came in, attempted to rob the bank there, set off dynamite and was killed by a police sniper and to this day remains unidentified. Very bizarre case for any number of reasons.

Victim was a young woman that went to some kind of concert/party that was either on the water, or near a body of water. She stayed with a “friend” and the friend’s boyfriend and another male. There was a strange sleep set up where the place they were staying at was on a cliff. She goes missing, and is found floating in the water. I think she was found by the people she was with. They did a search with cops and suggested the area to search, and lo and behold, she was there. No charges were ever filed, but the whole situation was really sus. I believe it was suggested that she fell off the cliff into the water at night searching for a place to use the restroom.

Hopefully someone can remember the name of her. It’s a very interesting case.

The other group of 15 died in a single event around 1800 CE. Most of these are the tall skeletons. None of them were local Indians, but rather Hellenes from Greece and Crete. One was an East Asian of mostly Malay descent with some Vietnamese admixture. There are estimated to be as many as 800 bodies surrounding that lake. Only 38 have been subject to modern analyses. There are no local legends nor records from the British Raj to suggest what a group of Greeks and a Malay would be doing in such a remote region.

The group of 15 was an early archaeological expedition from Greece. They were in search of remnants of the easternmost reaches of Alexander the Great's empire, and may have heard from the locals about a high lakeside littered with ancient skeletons. Perhaps suspecting it was the site of a battle, they journeyed up to the lake, only to be killed en masse by the same sort of sudden, devastating hailstorm that wiped out the earlier group. Since it happened around the time of the Greek War of Independence, perhaps their surviving relatives back in Hellas assumed their missing loved ones had been killed in battle.

That write up seems to raise more questions than answer. In what way was the farmer acting “strangely”? Why is it a legal nightmare for the Maltese coroner to fuck up an autopsy as opposed to just throwing out all his organs? Who stole all his stuff out there?

There's apparently a possible lead in the Brian Shaffer case. Several people have confirmed he was apparently bisexual. He and the guy who was in his group that night were known to frequent a gay bar in the area. Its heavily implied he lawyered up because he didn't want the fact that he and Brian were a thing to come out.

Now of course the other theories I saw most frequently were falling asleep in a dumpster, or him being buried in concrete.

His dad died without ever finding him. It's very sad.

The extreme weather they mention was 80 to 95 degrees f, depending on day, which could lead to heat related issues to a German. Pictures of the cliffs show fairly manageable trails but I see the opportunity for him to wreck or slide and end up over a cliff. Its only a mystery because they didn't look for definitive proof of a straight forward accident. The broken back wasn't a medical diagnosis, it was officials trying to be nice. He probably fell, got knocked out or concussed, then died of dehydration a day or two later. His bag could have fallen in the water or someone found it and took it after looking around briefly.

that reads like ai text with an ai name and ai headshot of a guy. Non sequitur sentences and completly inhoerenct time frame for a 2026 article to claim anything in this case was "recent".

Timeline is basically the kid dies, maltese authorities seem to get a picture that it must have been an accident, but are not very forthcoming with information to the family. that father wants answers and after some time gets the german prosecutors office involved. All the while the german yellow press keeps spinning the story further on essentially zero information basis. The responsible german prosecutors office seems to have gotten the maltese files sometime in spring 2018 (following events this "article" calls "recent") and subsequently closed their investigation, stating that non of the still unanswered questions raise supsicion that someone else was involved in his death. The family also seems to have gotten more information, and his father was quoted in a dpa snippet that questions still remain, but non of them substantial. Zero chance for the general public to get more information beyond yellow press piss and a sentiment of this not being a mystery which joins maltese police, german procescutors and the kids family.

I wish we had a list of cases where people have a really good idea of who did it but there's not enough ev8dende to convict. Like the one where the girl was left in the middle of the road in Canada and was found just after she had died. Turned out she was with two brothers and slept over at their house but there's just not enough physical evidence.

Troo crime podcasts make bank. They tend to be the biggest draws on Patreon. Seems like anyone can just read the unsolved mysteries wiki and make six figures per year. Some thots are going the titty streamer route which is very inappropriate but whatever. So I’m not surprised that someone is grifting off the corpse of their dead sibling. It’s an easy buck or two to make.

Her parents were mad that wypipo didn’t do enough to find her. If they’re big enough pieces of shit to do that, then anything they say about her home life is suspect. From your link:
