This is also something I’ve brought up here and it’s that people’s memories are a lot worse than people imagine. To remember something accurately from over 20 years ago is much harder than what media would tell you. Now you might say people should remember in the last 20+ years whether they killed someone or not but nowhere did the parents explicitly say that they killed Mary.

Mary calling herself Monica Devereaux supports my theory that she just wanted to avoid her past life. Mary not getting along well with Sherrie is Mary being Monica for more years than being Mary; people drift apart and it makes sense here. Also the Mohawk code word not being remembered is Mary not wanting to deal with her past life, which as we heard from the interview tapes are things she obviously doesn’t consider pleasant.

I dunno mang, it all seems pretty explainable to me.

I had a completely normal childhood and yet I don't remember too much of it, and I have awful face recognition so I don't recognise people I went to school with if they don't introduce themselves, with some exceptions.
Some are offended by that but it's not like it's something I have control over.

And it's not unusual for siblings to not be the tightest friends as adults even if they were as kids, people change and not having anything in common doesn't mean that they dislike their siblings.

I dunno, to this day Sarah speaks highly against her stepfather actions including how he was obsessively filming her almost every time, one could infer the family relationship was less than average.

Yes, there's no disputing they're the same person from the DNA results and the picture. She was just a severe alcoholic and schizophrenic so of course she was different and weirder than when they knew her as a 13 year old. It's just cope from the family.

Meh, that looks like just a trashy family goofing around. I'd have to see more to make a judgement. Father sounds like he had some sort of mental breakdowns and got paranoid about the electrical union from what i read. Maybe stress or guilt from killing the girl?

The sticking point for me is none of this explains the parents' grotesquely suspicious behavior following the disappearance. One theory I've seen bandied around on true crime / unsolved mystery boards is that the parents had actually killed another kid, which ... well, maybe that isn't so unreasonable. They seem to have been utter scum.

According to Sarah, he was paranoid about the union, claiming the unions were after him, so he went into schematics of getting revenge against this union by researching how to make pipebombs, pressure cooker bombs, etc. He also got into his head that the union killed Alissa and buried her body somewhere in a desert in California, a lotta schizo-babble, but there was the rumor that he was sexually abusing Alissa, and her mom was the one to take her to get checked out by doctors, as well as he didn't find it comfortable that Alissa was talking to other guys.

The guy is not all there, but he is out of prison... he's probably rotting away in some mental health clinic.

Always found this unidentified person case to be a bit odd.

Dude drops dead in a supermarket in a relatively populated city, is taken to hospital and has pretty current/decent photos, but no one has come forward to identify him.

Another unidentified case involves a bank robbery in Kenora, Ontario. For those not familiar with Kenora, it is a pretty isolated/small town in Northern Ontario.

A man came in, attempted to rob the bank there, set off dynamite and was killed by a police sniper and to this day remains unidentified. Very bizarre case for any number of reasons.

I would agree, but given the fairly well preserved state of the person and the fact that there’s no friends, coworkers, landlord, etc. always made it stand out to me. Kinda similar to that guy in BC who was featured a page or two back — no one knows where he was living or what happened to his personal belongings.

Especially since he seemed to pass out in a neighborhood grocery store, so he’d likely be from someplace nearby. I know that’s an assumption to be making, but the idea of being a part of a community and no one recognizing you is what made it stick with me.

Unrelated, but if folks are interested in other Canadian missing persons cases, there’s a ton associated with Niagara Falls suicides. There’s one case of a guy who had a fairly distinctive medical issue on his head (like a growth or cyst or something) and he’s gone unidentified despite being rather stand outish.

Of course the problem with sites like Niagara Falls is that they attract literal tourists so identification can get further complicated.

The murder of Janet Shirar is both utterly haunting and infuriating with how little progress was made towards anything resembling a useful angle of investigation, let alone an actual suspect. What gets to me is the insistent, vague details around "The Girl" who became the center of the investigation despite there being no previous witness accounts, no physical or vocal description, and no real effort to confirm whether or not Janet's murderer was an adult or child. "She" might as well have been an urban myth and not a suspect. You would think, given the brutality of the murder scene, that a rough approximation of the suspect would emerge, and then a composite sketch.

I have no idea how a case is allowed to go on in such a state, "The Girl" angle sounds more and more like a diversion.
