There were a few interesting comments in the websleuths thread about Mason.

I live within a mile of where Mason disappeared and his father posts regular updates on Nextdoor. Family is doing a great job of keeping Mason on people's minds.

From things Dad has written, I believe Mason is a homebody gamer. He does not have a "group" that he hangs out with and if he does have friends they may be online friends and not local. There have been zero verified sightings (the sightings are verified NOT mason by his parents) and the proximity to the mud flats is concerning. Several local folks brush this off as a "kid just pushing limits" but I do not believe that Mason has a local teenaged friend who could hide him this long or this well. Its a small town. I do not believe that Mason could have managed to go unnoticed in our homeless community this long either. He has no id, no money, was wearing shorts and its still cold here at night. My son (who was also depressive at 15 or 16), was also a homebody gamer (but did go to school) would not have had a friend locally to take him in. And feed him and clothe him for weeks?

If Mason is still with us, he must be with an adult, perhaps a gaming friend. I do desperately hope so. The vehemence to which his parents are concerned for his safety makes be believe that he is more endangered than at a friends house as well.

According to a nextdoor post, Mason at some point mentioned he "knew someone in the valley" - and this is the origin of the thinking that someone is harboring Mason. The Mat Su valley is about 50 minutes North of Anchorage.

Mason was found intoxicated in his home by his parents. My impression about what Dad stated on Nextdoor is that there are not a whole lot of friends. Mason was not hanging with friends as he doesn't seem to have friends. My impression, although not stated, is that this is a depressed teen, homeschooled for that reason. My impression is he was drinking at home alone. Parents discovered this, confronted him and he took off down the street. Neighbors doorbell cameras showed him smashing his phone and parents were able to retrieve phone.

He has not been seen since this camera view.


He was wearing shorts and a sweatshirt, and its cold at night. He has no id, no money, no phone. He lives near a bluff to the mudflats which are similar to quicksand and the tides come in fast. However, the bluffs and the flats and the woods near the house have been fully searched and there is no sign of mason.

He has mentioned knowing someone in the valley. This is why they consider he might have hitched a ride to the valley. There are buses - and hitchhiking is not terribly uncommon compared to the rest of the country - i would, even if driving alone - pick up a young person hitchhiking without much caution.

This is not a case of a kid run wild and partying with friends. Mason is a homeschooled homebody. He may have friends but they are likely online friends, and he does not have an electronic way to contact them. The library does have public use PCs, so i suppose that is possible.

Lots of locals assume its just a party kid run away. After reading what dad wrote about Mason and the circumstances, I am very concerned for Mason's safety, I do not believe he's a party kid hanging out with friends getting wasted. At about the same age, my son was also depressive and had no friends. I see that this could have been us, this could have been my son and I hope every day that Mason is out partying with friends. That is the best case scenario.

I think he went out to meet someone, maybe someone he talked to online, because he was homeschooled so I doubt he actually knew anyone locally, and died from the elements because of the cold, and I don't think he hitchhiked, I think he just kept walking.

Mason's parents said that this is the longest their son has been away from them and from home. They have fixed Mason's phone and would like to give it back to him. They believe that someone who Mason met online has been sheltering him somewhere. They want him to know that he is loved unconditionally and while they understand that he might not want to come home, they just want to talk and make sure he's doing okay.

If those texts were really him then he’s likely another discord victim. He probably moved in with a troon and is locked in their basement dungeon and/or trooned out himself by now

Absolutely. If a highly alone literally depressed kid gets a few drinks in him and decides to just walk out the door, in the suburbs or downtown it's a totally different story. Could have even just drank himself to death by accident in a slightly older kid's basement apartment, might not even be a grooming or murder.

It also sounded like he was drunk as well, though, and when he stormed off it was the end of him. He couldn't take the bus because he had no money. He probably wandered for a long time and then passed out and died, or simply just died from the elements. But then again, if he died from wandering while drunk, you figure he'd be found.

If he was walking about that far to get to this online person he commented on, in the snow, he was fucked.

This is completely random, but it reminds me of that couple that died in the snow in the 1990s. It became a famous case that was used in an anti-drug ad. They wandered out of the safety of their car and eventually died way later out in the snow, while on meth psychosis.

People think Alaska = frozen wasteland with a man-eating bear lurking behind every stunted shrub, but in May it would be light out for what humans recognize as a normal amount of time, and though the weather would be cool, it would be more like Seattle weather than like, Greenland weather. And depending on where in Anchorage it was, it might be a real neighborhood with neighbors and shit, as opposed to a shack on the edge of a half-frozen lake.

Assuming that he just froze to death like Jack Nicholson in The Shining is not a given.

Yeah, people severely underestimate how you can freeze to death in temperatures that may seem pretty high and especially if you are wet and don't have shelter from the elements.
+50-60 degrees (+10-15 Celsius) is enough to kill you in a few hours if you have inadequate clothing and no shelter.

Edit, I want to point out that it's a difference between actual freezing (the tissue freezing) to death and hypothermia/the loss of body temperature and I think people are unaware of the dangers of hypothermia in "warmer" conditions.

The “Becca” Jane doe and its accompanying picture is one of few pieces of mystery media that scare me beyond belief. She was a 34 year old woman found hanging in a New Mexico motel shower around 1991. One of the only pictures of her was Polaroid of her with a random man found on a table in the room.

I bet she was just trying to have fun but the way the photo was taken makes it so creepy. They found a scale in the motel room so I figure she died of an overdose and they just never identified her. I really hope she gets her name back soon!

Britbong TV presenter opens her front door one day and is professionally executed.

Suspects range from Serbian nationalists, heavy duty gangsters she’s possibly annoyed due to presenting Crime Watch, to a satanic cabal of BBC paedophiles who knew she had information that would lead to the arrest of Hillary Clinton.

To make things worse the police frame a local weirdo who they send to prison after a trial heavily astroturfed in the media and is later released on appeal.

Pretty major crime that only had the occasional documentary. The media and journalism had one of their own murdered but seem to be content to let this be forgotten.

If weird the murder doesn’t have its own Wikipedia article and is just one section of her article is weird.

It's pretty common with people who are drunk, elderly, or are otherwise vulnerable. Someone who wanders off and passes out (or gets injured, or gets confused and lost) in an out of the way location could very well die from exposure. There was some idiot in my neck of the woods who died 500 meters from where he was last seen because he decided to climb up a tree and expire. This was in the middle of the suburbs in a fairly large city.

And if it was Seattle, I'd assume some derelict gutted him.

Yeah but they did live in a neighbourhood with lots of nature around, not like it's in the middle of the city.

Plus, I can just go by a missing person in my small hometown years ago. She disappeared to take her life, it took five months before someone found the body and it was laying among some bushes in a factory area and there had been tons of searches around town, yet she was only found by chance.
I'm especially flabbergasted by the fact that she was dressed in neon pink and it took someone going just a little bit out of his way to finally catch the colour standing out of the vegetation.

It's pretty common with people who are drunk, elderly, or are otherwise vulnerable. Someone who wanders off and passes out (or gets injured, or gets confused and lost) in an out of the way location could very well die from exposure.

I knew of a guy who got wasted and tried to walk home. He passed out on some train tracks and got run over. There was a local also at one point who walked out of a hospital in a confused and messed up state, and he was eventually found dead right outside of the hospital in some nature spot.

That happened in my area as well. Passed out on the tracks and lost both of his legs.
He sued the hospital he had left, and Union Pacific, and the dumb fuck won something around three million dollars. The railroad appealed, but I don't know what came of it.
