Creepy Unsolved Mysteries - From unsolved murders to unidentified people to unexplained supernatural events, what are some of the creepiest unsolved mysteries you've ever heard of?

Same. [Kaczynski was a ] Clear-cut domestic terrorist, like the Weathermen or Timmy McVeigh.

Ted Kaczynski fantasized about killing people from an early age and wrote about how much he enjoyed it. He felt "sexually starved", hated young couples and hated the world. He also wrote that he didn't care about the environment, although did show concern for it at other times. He was criminally diverse too, committing burglary, arson, industrial sobotage and tom-peepery. He also shot and injured someone from a distance with a gun. He also wrote in his diaries that he had committed other crimes that would be "bad for PR" if known about.

For as much sense as his manifesto made, Ted wasn't the politcal crusader people think he was.

EDIT: Ted actually wrote about meeting Tim McVeigh. Since Ted believed that the races should unite to topple the system, he was skeptical of the "far right". However, McVeigh told him that the far right could be divided into two camps; racists and lolberts. Timmy placed himself in the latter category. Overall, Ted was impressed by McVeigh.

Don't ciphers often contain deliberate misspellings to up the difficulty?

I legit don't know, and am going off of a layperson's view on it. If the other person you're communicating with knows the cipher, then, yes, that probably adds a layer of complexity, I'd guess? But if the goal is to have someone crack it, I'd imagine throwing in curveballs like that would make the intended goal harder, not easier.
Or he intentionally misspelled stuff because the first one was cracked so easily due to proper spelling. He would misspell paradise as "paradice." They only recently cracked one of his ciphers after how many decades and this was with modern technology. He was pretty skilled at it.
Ya, I'm just kinda commenting on the idea that it'd be funny if everyone thought Zodiac was some clever dude when the reason no one could crack his unbreakable code is because he's about as talented with the English language as Patrick Tomlinson.

I did suggest him as a potential 'genius' serial killer at the start of this tangent. Zodiac, that is. We all know Tomlinson is stone stupid.

Granted, but we're talking about a case where people believe, apparently with great sincerity, that the screamingly obvious murderer was framed by anonymous drug dealers for shady but definitely nefarious purposes. The bar for "reasonable alternate theories" is quite low.
Yes, and people also forget that although he was found innocent in criminal court, where evidence beyond a reasonable doubt is needed for a conviction, he was found wanting in civil court, where you just need a preponderance of evidence.

Personally, I've often suspected that OJ was a hardcore coke addict. The nose-candy habit not only fueled his rages against Nicole, but drove him into an amphetamine-powered psychotic fugue wherein he killed her and Ronald G., but sincerely believed that someone else did it. When I watched the case unfold, it was obvious to me that OJ's pal Kato Kaelin was a typical Hollywood hanger-on who scored The Juice's Peruvian marching powder, among his other duties.

True, but the evidence in that trial -- which was an absolute clown show; I think a lot of people forget, even more than the intricacies of different evidentiary burdens, how absolutely shitheaded that prosecution team and Judge Ito were -- was pretty damning. It was as clear a case of jury nullification as one can imagine.

The coke thing is entirely believable, but I don't for a second think he "sincerely believes" that anyone else is responsible, otherwise he'd never have written If I Did It.

The thing with serial killers applies to  most killers, actually. They're generally very impulsive, which correlates to lower intelligence.

Not everyone with impulse control problems is a dumbass. You can get your brain fucked in ways that make you more likely to be impulsive, like Bipolar mania/hypomania, BPD, AsPD, etc., regardless of intelligence. In general, though, greater impulsivity is tied to lower intelligence even in people with those conditions, and straight-up killing someone out of rage (or especially for fun) is about as impulsive as it gets.

I would say it was the repeated head trauma from playing foosball.

The only thing Fresno is known for is being the meth capital of California.
There was a miniseries called Fresno (a parody of Dallas/etc) that was equally bad as the city itself.

Off of highway 20 in northern California, there's a place called Washington. Back in the 80s my ex and I took a drive up there just to check the place out.
It was like something out of Deliverance, people were coming out of their homes (shacks, really) to watch us drive by.
We were hoping there was some place to get lunch, but the place just creeped us out too much.
Looking back, it was most likely a bunch of weed farmers who were wondering who we were, but for my ex to get the willies was rare. Never wanted to re-visit the place.
Years ago (not that far away) I was camping and decided to go for a drive. I remember driving through a forest, then suddenly hitting a clearing with a cheap ass bridge and a chained up pit bull on the other side barking his ass off. I have no idea what was there but whatever it was, it wasn't good. It's amazing how fast cars can go in reverse.

Nullification is when you think the law itself needs to be removed from the books. The DA just did a shit job.

Sorry are you saying Kato was the type of cocaine supplier who gives discounts to his favourite celebrity in exhange for whatever sexual favours he can coax out of the guy, or the type that procures whores for his favourite celebrity in addition to cocaine? It is unclear which from your post.

With the jury OJ got and the trial taking place in that specific time period, he could've confessed on the stand that he killed her and they probably still would've decided on a 'not guilty' verdict. There was a documentary about OJ that interviewed one of the jurors, an older black woman, who essentially says she thought Nicole deserved it due to Nicole staying in the abusive relationship. There was so much crazy shit with that trial, like the judge allowing the jury to take a tour of OJ's home, which the defense of course staged to make OJ look like a family loving, God fearing man with traditional values.

Hey, he'd go on to give Norm MacDonald some of his best material, so, happy ending, kind of.
Nah, OJ jokes eventually led to him getting fired, so fuck that dirty murdering shitskin. We would've gotten way more jokes from his appeal attempts and screeching "I dindu noffin" on a death row.

I also love how people say that Ted killed "less than a dozen" so he wasn't that bad. If he actually destroyed that plane, you know, like he always regretted he wasn't able to, he'd be one of the most prolific killers in US history.

Military grade Anthrax that only got sent to the politicians who wouldnt back the patriot act, one must ponder who it could of been...
wait, I missed when Bat Boy was an elected official
because one of the more high-profile targets (for South FL) was American Media International, then-home of The Enquirer and that bastion of truthy journalism, The Weekly World News

I've seen videos on Susan Powell multiple times and my mind is always blown. Technically it isn't unsolved, but they still haven't found her remains. What a horrible end.

The 90s was really something. I remember when the Lorena Bobbitt stuff happened, and people joked about it and sided with John. It turns out John abused and raped her, and that's why she snapped.
