I always pictured IRL Spike as Jim from The Office (until he got all weird and muscled for action movies). Spike was really tall and lanky compared to damn near everyone else on the show.

The original CB had a remarkably "diverse" cast of characters. They were each a futuristic hodgepodge of different ethnic identities, and not in the inane way the dumbest of progs assume we all will be someday (one skin shade of brown). Aspects of each character represented distinct cultures and ethnicities that had stayed distinct in that future world despite the shifted cultural landscape. More than anything, you could say the cast represented humanity itself in its united sprawl across the solar system.
Compare that idea to the brainless, bigoted way Hollywood looks at casting. "We need at least one black actor. We need a Hispanic. We need a gay person. We need a tranny."
I guarantee you this series is moving forward now not in small part because none of the protagonists are white.
They might be cutting a character out since they have less episodes in which to tell the story. Whatever story they're planning to tell, anyway. If you had to cut a member of the major cast, Ed would be the one to cut.
I expect Ed to be in the show, though. Dark as midnight, profoundly autistic, and probably a transfag, too. Put her in a wheelchair and give her cerebral palsy and vitiligo while you're at it. Why not?

Jim definitely has that "effortless attractiveness" about him that would work a LOT better for Spike than John Cho. Jim has the hair for it, too. Haha.

I'm not sure if Ed was meant to be lightskinned black or southeast Asian. Neither show nor manga reveals anything about her origins to give a conclusive answer.

Its really not that hard to DDG "Japanese actors" and come up with hundreds of actors who would've looked the part better than Cho. The only hiccup is finding one who could do a passable American accent.

I was really hoping they canceled this shit, since we didn't hear an update for a couple months. I do not want a Netflix live action Cowboy Bebop TV series. Really wish we got the movie instead with Keanu Reeves. Look on the bright side: If Keanu had gotten his Bebop movie, then we may not have gotten the John Wick movies ... And if you ask me, give me an awesome ORIGINAL STORY over a remake anyday. Bebop never needed a remake in the first place.
