I’m an originalfag, I just don’t see why it needs to be live action. I guess people today just can’t take that sweet, sweet 4:3 aspect ratio.
Oh shit, you've cracked the code.

Widening audiences find themselves jealous of a narrow aspect ratio.

No corgi. Wait, no corgi?
THE RACE-SWAPPING HAS GONE TOO FAR, NETFLIX!!!!! I could dismiss the chink Spike, and grudgingly ignore black people in Death Note, BUT NO MORE!!!!

God, they can't even use a Corgi? This live action shit is gonna suck. Can't wait to see the shitty CGI for the ships and the Pop music. They probably won't even have the characters use the guns they use in the anime series. Probably be using futuristic space pistols. Fucking faggot ass netflix.

Unforgivable. Ein's breed is literally an aesthetic of the show. Netflix is so tone-deaf I swear to god...

'Kay, I don't remember when it was the studio made a deal with Netflix when they got the rights to make a live-action series of Cowboy Bebop, but I'm wondering how much control Netflix has over this project and fucking over an indie studio. Like if it's true that they didn't get a Corgi to be Ein for the series, that should be all the proof you need to know that Netflix is severely out-of-touch with reality. Even if Netflix wasn't aware of the original source material (which would be bloody hilarious), why would they turn down the idea of casting a Corgi?

John Cho? Really? Not who I'd have gone for as a casting choice.

So, let's take the "Ree woke" goggles off for a minute here.

The casting's not that great for utterly non-woke reasons by not properly looking at each character and their traits, so assuming a smallish budget I'll throw down my own semi-fantasy casting here.

Spike Spiegel is probably East Asian. Being based on Yusaku Matsuda n all. So casting an East Asian actor into this role makes a lot of sense. Cho's a "known name" in various geekdom circles and certainly the "correct" ones for the contacts, so is using (what's left of) his star power.

I'd rather like Simu Liu for Spike, who certainly has the style points and correct body to pull it off. He also has the range to do serious and more lighthearted roles.

Jet Black was voiced by Beau Billingslea, so recasting a black actor there really isn't some great surprise. Shakir's a pretty ok actor and has had very steady work throughout his career, which is not something people can pull off.

I'd have preferred someone who could pull off the same towering look as Jet though, which as much as I do like Shakir he doesn't manage. So maybe another curve ball and taking someone from the wrestling world? How about I throw one really out there and we get Mark Henry, the former WWE wrestler in for Jet? 6'4, hulking weight lifter who could use wrestling moves in fist fights. Man, that would be pretty sweet.

Faye Valentine is where things start falling apart though Daniella Pineda is the first odd duck out with no real reason to cast her. There's nothing to pick up on as, again, Faye should be some kind of Asian Actress. I'd go for someone who looks a little spoiled but will probably break your neck.

So JuJu Chan. Worked on a few things and knows MMA. You could even have a classic Faye moment where she looks spoiled brat/seducing someone before beating the ever loving shit out of them.

Vicious with Alex Hassell is perhaps the only one I can give a vague pass to. He's a solid British actor, he's trodden the boards and was even cast as Henry in Henry V by the Royal Shakespeare Company. RSC don't do shit casting, and they certainly don't put shit actors into the lead roles. As it currently stands, Hassell's going to steal the show.

Hey, wouldn't Spike have some Judaism in him just based off his surname alone? Also does Pineda have great tits and legs that go all the way up, or is that a negative?

"Spiegel" just means Mirror in German. It's not actually Jewish, just has a lot of Jewish Germans with the name.

To answer the Pineda question....

Apart from Faye I think the cast is OK.

But why though. I'm full weeb when it comes to Cowboy Bebop, I own a 9-DVD box set with art books and shit I've probably watched the whole thing over 8 times, movie included, it's a fantastic show with an awesome vibe, cool characters and stories, and an amazing soundtrack. But what makes it great for me is that it hints at something deeper, though just subtly enough that you wonder if you're overthinking it and it's just really all bullshit, and maybe it is but it always leaves me pensive. It's a fine line between being completely shallow and being too sententious, Cowboy Bebop walks it just exactly the way I like : it's wonderfully vague. I'm pretty sure Netflix won't go for "wonderfully vague" though, it's probably going to be another totally bland adaptation that the world could have done without.

I wonder how long this will take before people say NONE OF THE PEOPLE ARE JAPANESE! even though half of the original anime cast won't even Japanese as their names are in American. lol

John Cho is an underwhelming pick for Spike. I guess were lucky they didn't cast Masi Oka, but couldn't they have found a handsome Japanese fellow for the role? John Cho looks like a pug dog who got turned into a japanese man by an evil spirit.

As for Ein... well, Corgis are a trash breed anyway. Bring on the Husky!

Yeah, I always thought Spike was some flavor of Jewish. He looks the part, carries an Israeli-made pistol, and after all, there's not many Asians with the last name "Speigel."

Also, this is just a minor thing with me but I've seen a lot of great fancasts of Spike where the guy who was "cast" was Jewish, so I might be a bit biased.

Netflix has become self-aware. Its live-action adaptions are just meme's at this point. Also, there's no reason to do a live-action anime. The whole point of anime is stylistic art and scenes that cannot be pulled off in normal film. All live-action anime with the possible exception of Alita is shit because of this.
