The window scene looks so chintzy and low budget, its pathetic.
I know the standards for child actors is low but this is just bad. Like worst than a fanfilm. Also looks like they're gonna butcher Vincent if this shitfest ever gets a season 2.

First they make Faye latina when she was asian, then make Jet black (and a deadbeat dad, racist much?) now they make Ed white.

The fuck were they thinking?

How are the cowboys in the tv from the anime. The girl with long blonde hair and the guy. I think they were called Punch and Judy? And might been working for the antagonist? Its been a while. Are they in it?

And the Salma Hayek expy with the fake pregnancy is in it too right

Faye is such a fucking cunt its fucking wierd ngl

The first episode has her tracking down Katarina (Asimov's chick) to bring her back to a rich guy that may or may not supposed to be a fucking pimp or some shit, no mentions of gambling, she just fucking shows up and shit

Later she shoots Asimov lethally just to be a fucking cunt or some shit in the middle of a packed gun battle (thats static as shit), and Mustafa/Cho just shrug that off and catch her

Only good part of the episode is that the suprisingly recreated the end of it faithfully, but thats all i can stomach

I watched it and want to get some stuff out of the way first. Jet gives me the same stance I have on Willem Dafoe’s role in Deathflix which is that both can actually act as the characters they were cast as but were handed an awful script and dialogue. Jet in particular has issues where he whines a lot in the show over petty shit and is really stupid, then they give him a daughter which misses the point of the show in the original where everyone was drifters who met up with each other and found them.

Jet’s dynamic with Spike is also shit since they act way too much like Buddy cops with Jet following the rules and Spike being the “loose cannon who doesn’t play by the rules” and is handled really poorly. It doesn’t help Jet is also on the front lines a lot and acts like a complete dumbass. The dynamics in this show are terrible too since no one is subtle how they feel about each other since you see Jet and Spike act like super best friends openly, and Faye even hugging Jet to show she’s a good friend.

Speaking of Faye, she’s just the generic “Current Year” Action Girl, she isn’t the worst part of the show mainly because there are so many characters like her nowadays that she’s just another time capsule of how bad Americans can write women. Really the worst female character is Julia.

Julia serves as a damsel in distress who exists to be Vicious’ punching bag to establish how evil he is, and then she suddenly becomes a villain in the last episode who wants to control the entire syndicate. The way the show treats her implies she’s a strong girl who doesn’t need no man and pulls an intimidation tactic on Vicious that he pulled earlier on her to establish a girl boss moment. They also keep referencing her dream quote as though it’s the deepest shit ever and overuse flashbacks with her, they even give her a fucking rose tattoo!

Speaking of Vicious, he’s the second worst character in the show and he is probably more cartoony than every single character since he’s an albino Samurai Cop who has daddy issues and acts like a complete bitch. He’s also a wife beater to establish how evil he is (since Julia is his wife now). He also whines, cries, and acts more immature compared to Anime Vicious. It gets worse when they pull a Sherlock and try to make Vicious and the Syndicate connected with each episode from the first one being involved in the Red Eye drug trade, sending a random assassin to kill Spike in a church while they search for the Teddy Bomber, and also hired Pierrot to kill Spike (who has Jet to help him in fighting him).

Spike is the worst character in the show though since he’s an uncharismatic asshole. Like Spike doesn’t take his job at all seriously and acts like a whiny teenager as though Jet was the one who made him a bounty hunter. He also gets randomly attached to the “pregnant” lady and treats her like she is exactly like Julia when they literally have one conversation together rather than just simply pity her like in the original. Spike also weirdly has some weird obsession with noodles and wears headphones almost every scene where there is downtime.

As for the other characters, they’re bad. Ed is just an autistic weeb in a high school anime club, Gren is a fruitcake who is pretentiously flamboyant man, and Ana is some owner of a jazz club where she acts like a girlboss.

Everything else is trash since the humor is something you’d expect from Joss Whedon. There’s also the lighting which is cheap and lazy. But the worst part is the choreography since every fight scene blows it’s load since they overdo action scenes in every episode. It also gets very ridiculous since when Spike is in a fight scene, almost every time it looks like the opponent is letting Spike attack them with little resistance.

It’s complete shit overall and not worth watching.

I was sorta okay with the stocky Maori or whatever the fuck the rumor was.
Trying to look like Ed is just that much weirder.

Also the acting makes me think that kid might have actually gave a fuck about Bebop and is in a sea of no fucks given. Not good enough to carry Ed, but at least trying. The voice inflection is very on-point for Eng Dub Ed.

Honestly the kid and Jet’s actor seem like the only two who try to get the voice down compared to Faye who tries to act like a cool action girl or Spike who is as emotional as dried bread.

Mustafa Shakir was really incredible. I feel like he has to be a fan of the original because his delivery is almost identical to Jet's English VA.

Rest of it was bad though. I feel like the ingredients are here for a pretty good space-opera noir show or some shit, but it's definitely not Cowboy Bebop.

It's disturbing how old Cho looks for someone his age.

Hey grandpa, tell us about the time you did jello shots and saw Sugar Ray in 2001.

She radiates big "2003 era weeb" energy.

You tell me which one is better with dialogue and characterization.
It's amazing how genuinely terrible their adaption of that scene is.

And it's such a beautiful scene in the original anime, this is a travesty.

How badly do they screw up the "Rain" scene assuming they actually use it?

Also, do they not adapt Pierrot Le Fou for season 1?

If you look at normal footage of him, he doesn't look even as remotely as old as he does in Bebop. Something about the filters used for that show just make everyone look 10 years older than they actually are, and it's most apparent on Cho.

They're there. IIRC they appear in episode two. Or three. Having a hard time making it through this shit show.

Yes, they poorly adapt that episode. It's terrible and shows how inferior the show is to the anime. For some reason they made her British. They also pad it out with a Vicious/Julia subplot which is horrible.

I give that dude all the credit in the world. He is the only good thing in that shit show. I hope he gets much better roles out of this.

Two of the 3 leads just don't work at all. The antagonist doesn't work. Piss poor production values. Misguided direction. It's baffling how they got this so wrong.

I wonder how many live-action anime adaptations will the morons in the industry realize that adapting an anime to a different format never ends well?
It can end well they just need to put actual fucking effort into it. Certain things just won't work without it being animated but you could still theoretically put out an accurate adaptation to live action. The problem is when the studio decides "we need to change shit to be more in line with modern day sensibilities!" or "we need to alter this so western audiences can understand it!" Meanwhile the thing and similar kinds of media have already been released in the west and people have no problem understanding them. It's like if you took cinderella and because hyper political people in current day might find aspects of it "scary and insulting" or felt the need to make the glass slipper "less confusing more relatable" and make it a sneaker or something OH WAIT DISNEY'S ACTUALY DOING THAT THIS PLAGUE IS NOT ONLY HAPPENING TO ANIME IT'S A FUCKING MEDIA EPIDEMIC RIGHT NOW.
