Netflix is doing what that one Cartoon Network intern did and scribbled a shitty sketch over the person who did the original character designs.

That literally made me gasp in horror and disgust... they ought to be beaten for that. Jesus Christ, it takes a lot to offend me, but fuck that person with the claw-end of a rusty hammer.

There will never be a time where this image doesn't make me froth with rage.
That being said Cho has none of the charm needed to pull off Spike Spiegel. There is a smarm to Spike that Cho just cannot land and I'm hoping he can at least bring it when it comes to the fight scenes, in spite of his Jeet Kun Do looking pretty stiff in the trailer.

Spike had the cocky energy that comes with being in his prime, it's subtle but it's there and one of his more surface level traits and none of that is seen in any of the promo material. Cho's Spike and his old man jowls on the other hand looks fucking miserable like a typical bitter antihero or somebody's Chinese uncle who got talked into cosplaying. I'm clueless about fight choreography and the cardboard action was apparent, even to me. I wanna know just how they dropped the ball on that, like did they think they didn't need hire someone to do that?

Jet's okay so far, if only because he hasn't been stupid yet, but they'll probably neuter him and take away the cop backstory because he's black now.

In retrospec, really weird choice of them giving the role of Jet "the Black Dog" Black to a black guy. Seeing the rest of the casting disasters, I'm fine with the dude they casted, but it turned into a black ranger situation kind off.

The race making the name sound odd doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would, actually. With how many changes they're making I could see them snipping that little detail off. If Faye is now the 'smart' one then I'm interested in what his character's new purpose will be, I don't trust the writers are able to nail his thoughtful nature.

Or he quits the force because Udai Taxim is a Dindu high on shrooms and gets choked out by Fad. Jet then quits the Force because ACAB.

I honestly hope they don't change Jet's backstory at all since it is a HUGE part of what makes Jet, Jet. They didn't seem to jank up Spike's history so I'm going to remain cautiously optimistic that someone on the production team at NetFlix can reign in the dangerhairs on staff and keep them from fucking this up too much.

All these optimists here thinking we're going to have time to investigate the least objectional casting choice's backstory. Jet's not going to get that sort of screentime.

Spike is tall, lanky, supremely confident, constantly underestimated by everyone who doesn't know him and always using that to his advantage. Casting Cho doesn't work for any of that.
Imagine if they cast someone like Terence Hill for the role:
Instead they cast Henry Ford.

1) My God those special effects are fucking terrible. Everything looks unconvincing as hell. I know it is just a TV show but I see better effects on shitty cape shit TV.
2) So Spike's name isn't even Spike now, it's an alias? Glad to see we are throwing multiple levels on him for no fucking reason except maybe explaining his non-Asian name for an Asian dude because reasons?
3) All that fighting, cinematography, etc. just looks sloppy and unprofessional. Fanfilms have more respect.
4) Keep MCU humor out of this shit please, you not only make this shit more horrifying with it but you destroy the relationships between the characters. Spike never wanted to kill Faye, he saw her as a freeloader most of the time but respected her as an asset to the crew.
5) Blackwashed Ana seems to be playing a far larger role than in the actual show, which confirms my suspicions Julia and Trooned out Gren will be major side characters instead of only appearing in person in a few episodes.
6) Stop using the soundtrack improperly to fanbait, it's retarded for anyone with a brain.
That literally made me gasp in horror and disgust... they ought to be beaten for that. Jesus Christ, it takes a lot to offend me, but fuck that person with the claw-end of a rusty hammer.
CalArts needs wiped off the Earth, I'll never forgive them for the irreparable damage they've done to the medium of animation.

Isn't Spike supposed to be 27-28 years old? Not only does this guy not bear a single resemblance to Spike, he's also two decades older than the character he's supposed to be playing. And if they're going with the angle of "we aged him up" then that's even worse because he's supposed to be a charismatic and roguish man in his prime not some 50 year old.
