I just had interesting thought: cowboy bebop is supposed to be an adaptation of its beloved anime counterpart yeah? It sucks donkey shit, but it gets even worse for them because another show came out in the same month and it wasn’t even live action! Arcane is fucking amazing with its gorgeous art, amazing direction and characters! And even better? None of thier female characters are annoying girl bosses! All of them act like normal people! So in the end? Maybe Netflix should stop with the live action shit…

To be absolutely fair, at least in terms of visuals, Arcane had literally infinite money to spend on the show to make it look as ridiculously gorgeous as possible. Bebop had a Netflix budget.

Plus the script would have still been utter balls no matter how much money got thrown at it.

True, but money can only take you so far… it took talent to pull off what arcane was able to achieve. Something bebop clearly lacked amoung a ton of other things.

Acrane have the benefit of the original creator slash studio giving a major fuck to not let someone else get their hands on it and do a hackjob.

I mean Arcane probably had people who know what they were doing at the helm while Live Action Bebop has a guy who doesn't understand that Bebop is in a dystopian setting and a man who writes marvel cartoons at the helm of it.

Here's a grainy as shit 2007 video that compares a few songs:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=eOy3AuB5PtI
She is very... uh... liberal in how close she stays to her "inspiration". Some of these comparisons are almost perfect matches.
Doesn't mean all her songs are plagiarized, but Yoko Kanno certainly doesn't work in a vacuum and some of her songs are very similar to works by other artists.
Her work is still amazing.
At least she's not as blatant as that DBZ composer who got fired by Toei for plagiarizing a lot of his stuff.

I regret to inform you all that this thing exists.

He at least points out he was sponsored by Netflix int he past, but still trying to qualify giving it a bad review by saying it has "good music, good aesthetic, valiant attempt..."

For someone who loves Cowboy Bebop he calls Ed "he"
Tbqh, every fucking time I see a YouTube video title beginning with "My honest thoughts..." I don't even bother watching it. Most of these "My honest thoughts" videos are just an euphemism for "Dumb takes on topics I have no clue about."

This entire video really feels like AnimeMan trying to backtrack from being a Netflix shill but holy shit this video felt too soft for someone who was giving criticisms. He even tried to pull the "X was always bad you just didn't notice it" card when discussing Ed.

Also "This came from a respected place" yeah since nothing feels like they respect the source material like making every character a whiny asshole who needs to swear to seem more adult. Hell let's also turn a tragic character into a negative gay stereotype as well while they are at it. To top it off let's even ignore the tone of the original whatsoever since dystopias are a bit too scary.

Then again anyone who thinks Spike's performance was good in this has pretty shit taste and the fact he repeated the idea that Watanabe had control over this when he really didn't is astounding.

Tbh, not only is John Cho who plays Spike Spiegel giving a "I just phone it in for the paycheck" performance, at least IMHO, the guy is also way to old for Spike Spiegel. Cho is 49 while Spike Spiegel in the anime was, IIRC, 27.
´That shows quite drastically in the action scenes, as example in the first episode the fight between him and "Faye" is so laughably bad it left me with a serious "what the fuck was that" feeling. It also doesn't help that the actionscenes are so badly filmed and choreographed that every move they make gives away that they were hanging on wires.

So I watched the first episode just to see how it was, I had pretty low expectations, but fuck this just feels so off. The only character that felt somewhat right is Jett, Faye and spikes characters are just fucking awful. They got the cheesy parts down, but without any of the fun of the original. At least the ships look cool.

I never understood the appeal of John Cho. Even the few lunatics I know who love this adaptation only like him because he was in Harold and Kumar.

That's what most people have been saying. Even if he's racebent, nu-Jet is the only one who looks, talks and sounds like the original Jet, the only flaw being this corny family angle they gave him and that terrible lines they give him like during that flirting scene.

LOL. Our adaptation was bad because the anime ruined it.

Also, I refuse to watch the live action shit, but holy fuck did they really go with Julia overthrowing Vicious and then shooting Spike herself? WHAT... THE... FUCK????
Yes, every episode has Vicious/Julia scenes shoved in them and theyre all terrible.

In this version, instead of running away and dissappearing after the escape plan is ruined, she marries Vicious. Outside of that, her life basically stays the same and the reason given as to why Spike hasnt gone after her all this time is that Vicious told him that she had chosen to be with him.

So every episode she mopes around feeling sad, sometimes getting roughed up by Vicious and sometimes having long boring conversations about her life with racebent Ana and genderbent Gren. I have a hard time remembering what exactly they have conversations about because every scene of hers feels overly long and samey.

In the final episode, after Vicious takes control of the Syndicate, she saves Spike's life and then suddenly decides that its time to become a girlboss and take control of everything. She goes full Anakin Skywalker on him, offering the chance to take control of the galaxy with her by his side, but Spike doesnt want to do that, which leads the show to bastardize the "It was all a dream" line and to Julia shooting Spike through a window.
