This is standard journo behavior and always has been. There was just a brief period for about 30 years post-WWII where they so completely controlled access to information they were able to tell everyone they were benevolent and people believed them.
What worries me is that sooner or later, clickbait writers/activists with press passes will cause someone's death in the same manner that those paparazzi who helped cause Princess Diana's death...and that they will be celebrated for it.
Why exactly did they fixate on Dank so fucking hard over that? I don't remember how active he was on the Internet before the pug video took off.
The "nazi" part was the sole reason, he was just a simple amateur comedian doing the occasional stand-up and he believed in the same kind of humor people like Jimmy Carr do on a regular basis, but since he was a nobody, he was completely powerless to fight it. Jimmy Carr does Nazi-jokes and worse constantly but you don't see the media dragging him to the stocks because he can afford lawyers that would slap 'em silly. The entire narrative around the pug thing was that "he wasn't making a joke" and that's the worldview they'll hold onto because that's the only world where they can clap a man in irons over speech.
I think the UK Police and Court system got a bit of a fright with the Dankula case. Particularly when it came to how the case was reported in the US. Dankula got good legal representation which can be hard in the UK where solicitors often don't want to piss off judges by defending their clients too hard, made sure he had the funds to fight the case and essentially did the exact opposite of what someone like Sargon would do.
I can't imagine a lot of the police willingly going along with this charade all that much, with all the funding cuts and the absolute circus of a social media with spoons and butter knives confiscated, there has to be plenty of cops who just wish they'd picked up pottery or something.
He'll probably be really tired and need a nap instead, though.
It's still a solid pensionable job, with plenty of opportunity to go on the long term sick. Regards the butter knives and spoon confiscations, it used to be something the Police would do to fuck people around, so say they pulled over for a driving offense and he started giving them shit, well they'd search the car find a screw driver and call it a deadly weapon. They might not charge him with it but it would give him so much grief that the guy would take the caution pay the fine and fuck off.
Because the Guardian needed its two minutes of hate and chose Dankula as he seemed like an easy target
