Canada loves to look south of the border at our much bigger and much louder neighbours in the United States, and emulate them. We watch their TV shows, listen to their music and follow their celebrities. Same goes for our politicians drawing inspiration from theirs.

Conservative premiers like Danielle Smith and Doug Ford, along with Conservative Party of Canada leader Pierre Poilievre, have already taken from Donald Trump’s playbook. And now, our big, boisterous southern neighbour of a country has re-elected Trump as president, with a final campaign push focused on millions of dollars of ad-spending villainizing trans people.

While the anti-trans messaging was far from the sole reason Trump won the election, senior editor Mel Woods breaks down why we shouldn’t be surprised if the Canadian right takes that strategy and runs with it.

It's still not kosher in the Canadian mainstream to complain and campaign about mass immigration, namely millions of low-skill Indians Trudeau has imported since COVID to prop up sagging GDP numbers and keep the overvalued housing market going.

The trans thing is definitely another bridge too far.

Pierre Poilievre, the federal Conservative leader who is creaming Trudeau in the polls and will become PM next fall, refuses to even acknowledge the mass immigration problem (or at least, not in the English press).

Every day he has a photop with an Indian voting bloc dressed up in embarrassing garb that Trudeau used to be mocked for.



Poilievre is campaigning on creating more direct flights from India to Canada, to fasttrack the recognition of foreign credentials for healthcare workers, to provide citizenship to Indian students whose visas are expiring & are being threatened with deportation because they tried to scam residency by attending fake private career colleges while working retail and fast food jobs.

Poilievre doesn't even acknowledge the fact that Canada has legally imported millions of low skill Indians since 2020. He simply uses veiled language, claiming Canada has a "housing problem" not an immigration problem. All his talking points are around the feds building more housing and "removing gatekeepers".

His second in command is a lesbian Jewish rooster.



A few years back, Poilievre unanimously supported a Trudeau bill to outlaw "conversion therapy", which is so broad that it essentially criminalizes any teacher/doctor/ pastor/counselor from slowing down the lunatic "gender-affirming care" pathway for minors in any way.

The closest Canada has to any sort of gender critical political figure is Maxime Bernier. He leads the People's Party of Canada, which is essentially just himself. He doesn't hold a seat in Parliament and likely won't for the foreseeable future. He's lost every seat he's run for since breaking away from the Conservatives 3 leaders ago.



Bernier is generally based, but is from Quebec and doesn't speak well in English. His Quebec hometown of Beauce is Conservative, but they turfed him for the mainstream Conservative candidate as soon as Max broke away.

He ran in probably the most right-leaning, Mennonite riding in the country near Winkler, Manitoba within the last year during a by-election and only managed something like 13% of the vote.

This is Solomon Wiebe, the local guy who outperformed Bernier in the Portage-Lisgar Manitoba riding in 2021.

The party has announced the selection of Solomon Wiebe as the PPC candidate for the riding of Portage-Lisgar. Wiebe hails from a small farm near Morris and has remained in the area his whole life. He talks about what drew him into politics.

Wiebe secured 21.6% of the vote in 2021, the best PPC showing in thr entire country while running against a prominent Tory figure in Candace Bergen.

Max only managed 17.2% a few years later after Bergen stepped down against a weaker opponent.

Interestingly, Bernier took a chance in 2023 when running in the by-election by openly campaigning on abortion restrictions, which is a third rail in Canadian politics which zero abortion legislation on the books whatsoever after existing laws were struck down in the 80s.

I don't think it'd be as effective if that's what they're leaning on. You'd need more documented incidents of say, for example, women having an issue with transwomen in single-sex spaces, sexual assaults on women, healthcare professionals coercing parents to let their children transition (or cut out the middleman and groom children directly), or trans people being blatantly obnoxious in public spaces. There might be more of a pushback if some other minority that's considered oppressed speaks out against the trans rhetoric; kind of like that autistic girl who got arrested in the UK ( Archive ) for assuming a policewoman was a lesbian.

I completely written off the Conservatives when Pierre Poilievre started complaining about curry monkeys "sleeping under bridges". Literally made a big stink about how sad it was that people who shouldn't even be in the country aren't being given free gibs and handouts. Voting purple next election and I genuinely don't give a fucking shit about paste eaters telling me I'm "splitting the vote" when the Conservatives are fucking Liberals following the speed limit.
