I’d like to think that there’s a difference between a spanking and a flat out beating. Spanking is just a few smacks to the butt, but a beating? Yeah, that’s going to be a bruise at best, and bleeding at worst. A beating is obviously child abuse, but what about spanking?

I would say no to spanking being abusive; however, with evidence pointing to lower cognitive abilities/lower IQ, I wouldn’t advise it. I also wouldn’t advise it if you’re like me, and have a bit of a temper. If you have to have spankings, use it as a last resort.

For my upbringing, I was spanked a few times and was hit with some weed from around the yard. (weird, I know, but those things did sting a bit) However, this was very short, as my my doctors advised against this. I would be threaten with a spanking, but never receive one. I still turned out all right considering my circumstances. People I know that received spankings a lot? Yeah, they turned out awful.

TL;DR: You shouldn’t spank your kids, but if you must, do it as a last resort.

A far better and creative method of punishment is to have your child's steam account connected to your email to allow you to change the password at anytime. If you leave this as the seemingly last resort then it seems even more punishing and drastic. I Know quite a few people who's Kids have had their CS:GO taken away through this method when they started acting like little shits. Sometimes always online isn't that bad.

Honestly, they should just make kids write their wrists numb by doing write-offs. When I was a kid, that was way worse than being smacked by a wooden spoon. The worst was writing Bible verses from the King James Version, which I remember when (:powerlevel:) me and my cousin almost burned down my aunt and uncle's house when we were messing with his heating system melting toys and shit. Being banned from playing the vidya for weeks on end sucked too. Couldn't play Spyro (classic PS1) or Age of Empires or my other fave games, and I remember how great it was being allowed to play that again.

As an adult, I can appreciate why corporal punishment is good (schools should be allowed to do it, but only with parental permission), but there's a lot of ways to inflict punishment on kids without beating their ass. Making your kid write "I will learn to listen" 200 times every time they fuck up (and they can't do jack shit until they finish) is far better than a beating. All that suffers is their penmanship, but who cares when they'll be typing almost everything important. Or just ban kids from the vidya--Minecraft or Fortnite or whatever's big now would work.

Well, it probably would be less of a debate if there were not so many high profile cases of parents taking it way too far. Getting smacked once on the behind kept me from running out in traffic, and it probably hurt a lot less.
