Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh dies at 70

Conservative talk show radio host and Republican party icon Rush Limbaugh has died. He was 70 years old.

His wife Kathryn announced his passing on his radio show Wednesday, saying Limbaugh died earlier this morning.

“Rush will forever be the greatest of all time,” she said.

Limbaugh had been battling advanced lung cancer since February.

Back in October, Limbaugh provided this somber update on his show: “You know, I wake up every day and thank God that I did. I go to bed every night praying I’m gonna wake up. I don’t know how many of you do that, those of you who are not sick, those of you who are not facing something like I and countless other millions are.”

Former President Donald Trump awarded Limbaugh the Medal of Freedom during his most recent State of the Union address

This appearance only a few days after his he revealed his diagnosis on his show.

“I can’t help but feel that I’m letting everybody down with this, but the upshot is that I have been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer,” Limbaugh said in February.

“The Rush Limbaugh Show” first aired in 1988.

Like him or hate him he managed to keep AM alive.
I knew he was going to leave a big hole on AM but I didn't realize how big looking up some of the numbers.
Any given CNN/FOXnews/MSNBS show pulls 2-5million viewers
The #1 TV show (NCIS) pulls 15.4 million viewers.
Rush was pulling 15.5million listeners in the end. On fucking AM radio in the internet age.
In his heyday he was doing 20million. #1 rated talk show for 40 years except for 3 months.

With the rising energy costs (AMers use tons of electricity) and now no Rush I think the medium is going to collapse quickly.

Never really listened to his stuff, so I can't say much about him. But I honestly don't see how a radio talk show host warrants this much amount of hate and vitriol. Even if he was really damn good at what he did.

A cat lady with granny glasses and a nose ring. HOOO BOY.
Kinda proves Rush right on that one. Feminazis act more like it now than when he said it.

And that wasn't QUITE what happened with Chelsea, but a grown man mocking the looks of a 13-year-old, on TV, because you don't like her parents? That's pretty petty. Make fun of Hilary instead.
Not to mention, Rush ain't exactly George Clooney, to put it mildly.
Chelsea was an ugly child who grew into her looks by becoming an even uglier adult. She's also retarded, but as she's Hillary's daughter, that's to be expected.

I dunno, champ, kinda looks like they're celebrating from where I'm sitting, but that might be because I'm not some hopeless partisan.

If it's tears you're into, I HIGHLY recommend reading through this thread. There are some gay ass crybaby posts about "missing" their fat, faggot boomer daddy, and don't even get me started on the posts crying over "grave dancing."

He broke the media monopoly on national level information. Thats really it.

Also it's kind of gross the way people clutch their pearls and shriek when 'their' dead people get dunked on. Conservatives acted like gleeful jackals when that Supreme Court lady died, liberals acting like gleeful jackals now on Rush. You can think it's totally fine to dunk on the dead, or you can think it's ghoulish and distasteful, but it's pretty rare to see anybody stay consistent with that shit.
Crab Rave would have been posted had RGB gracefully retired and nobody would have cared had she lived another hundred years. Conservatives didn't want her dead, they wanted the SCOTUS seat open. You can find instances of people cheering the seat opening even as they say "She seemed like a decent sort. I hope her and Scalia are hanging out again. etc etc"

Most leftists didn't even know about him other than making AM radio jokes about him until the fact that a huge portion of people, moderate and rightwards, listened to him gave the venue for getting The Contract With America out there. His cheerleading pretty much ushered in one of the highest impact wave elections in US history.

No amount of liberal talking heads going on the news calling it the "Contract on America" made any difference, and it was the first demonstration of the monopoly having been broken.

Even after the election, seats that the Republicans didn't win continued to flip due to party defections based on what was in the contract to be done in the first 100 days, much of which was getting rid of rules that let House members follow different sets of rules than the scum on the street.

The '94 election was fascinating and pretty much turned the Clinton administration into a Republican wet dream with all the reforms that he had to get out in front of to accomplish anything at all, like the huge welfare program reforms.

It didn't have to be Limbaugh, the pump was primed for someone, anyone, to step up and he was just the one that was positioned to do it. It didn't work in the other direction, even heavily backed Air America failed because the left wasn't exactly excluded from the airwaves. The Left really didn't get a foothold for bald faced bias until Fox News ate up most of the cable news viewers - that's when it worked and you got MSNBC.

Live by the cancer stick, die by the cancer stick.

Aside from his constant promotion of the supposed healthiness of smoking, I never found his stuff any more offensive than the usual paid right wing talking heads. Not happy about him dying, but I honestly couldn't care either. He reaped what his habits sewed. Close the book.

I can agree with this.
