If you're interested in movies, write a movie script.
If you're interested in novels, write a novel.
Do not try to write a movie script in novel format.
It's pretty fucking simple.

Give us a one page excerpt of what you'd write. Doesn't have to be a fully formed story, doesn't have to really be connected to anything. You can write it right here, right now if you want. Basically, as if someone ripped a page out of your book and posted it. I'm interested what you'd think an "action novel" would be like.

There's nothing new under the sun. I'm not saying it's wrong to want to try something different, it can be great and you shouldn't plagiarize other work, but it's not necessary for every novel to be a genre-busting industry pioneer. Not to mention that since you are inexperienced it is extremely unlikely that you can pull it off.

I think Connor was trying to imply through sarcasm that there are no primal forces of the writing universes, and that his action novel is just as likely to work as a more traditional dramatic or literary novel.

You know what? I never dreamed of being a literary writer. Not once. I'm a genre guy, and I don't see anything wrong with that. I love the occasional literary novel with higher aspirations, but I find commercial genre fiction to be, y'know, more fun.

You can't have it both ways, Connor. You can't say "hi, I'm just a genre writer modestly trying to entertain within the limits of my craft" and then start claiming that you are going to redefine what a novel is, and that there are no restraints on what can work in novel format.
I'll ask again - why not write movie scripts?

I think it's because he knows movie scripts are harder to succeed with and he doesn't want to put in the effort. He just wants to bang out a 1200 word story about people shooting each other, call it a book, and then have it published so the world can jack off to his amazing genius.

To confess something, I actually like this website. It's the cynicism and the naysayers that I can't stand. They tend to be either broken dreamers or the kind of people who just have a bad habit of breaking dreams. In either case, both cut the dreamers down to boost their own egos. To those people, I say: fucking dream.
