Sorry for pulling this up from earlier in the thread, but as a former Gaiafag and regular of their Writers' Forum from about 2005-2008, I'm surprised that Connor's account has been inactive for as long as it has. Assuming the climate hasn't changed much (I doubt it has) Connor should fit right in.

^This thread is extremely typical of the shit that gets posted in the WF, especially by newfags. Probably 90% of the kids who come to the WF make their first thread exactly like this and it gets handled in about the same way every time. It's a common mistake and Connor could easily bounce back.

^Same here, extremely typical. The only thing he did wrong was make a separate thread for people to "discuss" his fanfic. If he took one second to look around he'd have noticed that nobody does that.
Basically the WF is about 90% 12-16 year old writers who wander in and out for asspats and 10% snarky regulars in their early 20s who think they're better than everybody else, 1% of whom actually have some talent. The regulars think the 90% only exist so they can prove how superior they are. They could easily be fooled into drawing Connor into their fold if he stuck around long enough, simply by his attitude alone.
Go back to Gaia, Connor. They'll like you more there.

What IS his issue with adoption? Is he adopted or does he have personal experience with adoption? If so, I could understand him having an opinion. It just seems like he's freaking out over nothing. If he doesn't like adoption, then he shouldn't adopt a kid.

He thinks that the only reason anyone would adopt a child is because they're selfish monsters with deep-seated control issues. He's essentially said that all adopted children will grow up to be psychopaths and serial killers and that if his wife ever suggested adoption, he would leave her immediately.

These are the reasons I've seen him give: (1) he is concerned about being infertile for some reason, and he is one of those super-gritty nihilists who thinks having children is life's only purpose, (2) he can't write a good story about it, (3) he can't comprehend a person loving a child that's not biologically theirs, and (4) adoption is just a financial transaction to him, so it must be selfish and the parents will berate their children if "they don't think they made a good purchase". He isn't adopted, but he worries that he may be deeply.

In his own words, Connor hates adoption because he thinks he's addicted to masturbation so much that it will lower his sperm count, rendering him incapable of having children of his own and forcing him to adopt. He believes that other men will laugh at him because of this.

I don't know too much about this Connor guy myself, I have seen him get into arguments with Null. The most recent one I can remember was during the time Vade came here.
But yeah, I wonder if his parents really were like he described. If so, that sucks. However, I'm taking what he says with a grain of salt. He could very well just be a drama queen looking for attention.

It's so easy to say "I have abusive parents" when you're a teenager. It immediately paints you as a sympathetic victim held hostage by your abusers. Making the claims online to people who have no idea what your home life is like also makes your claims more difficult to disprove thereby guaranteeing at least a handful of supportive reactions. Plus it's another useful card to play during the Oppression Olympics.
That said, I don't know what Connor's home situation is like. He could have abusive parents, but he could also be misconstruing the events. Really, if it is such a detrimental living situation then he can take definitive steps to either change it or get himself out of there, neither of which he's shown initiative to do. He won't call DSS and he has a fervent dislike of therapy. So if he won't remove himself from the situation or take measures to confront his parents in a constructive way then barring some sort of miracle things will remain as they are.
In the end, Connor is not a reliable source of information on this front. I get the feeling that an educated third-party (such as a therapist or social worker) would come to a much different conclusion about the reality of his circumstances.
