No real standout thread here just for tapes, figured I'd make one since I have been on a bender hawking eBay for NOS albums and wound up getting ahold of Abacab and Peter Gabriel III for under $10 each after already stalking around trying to find tapes that use chrome in standard bias mode since those sound better by default (A&M ones are godhood in this regard). Anyone else here still into using tapes outside of the lameass "revival" going on where tapes get released with no noise reduction and absolute slapass quality control? Any albums that sound good on tape that aren't just Digalog bins?

No but I use the tape deck in my car as an aux port which is pretty cool.

Why would anyone want to go back to using tapes? They are actually the most inconvenient and kind of crappy media format of them all. Finding the start of a track is difficult, they need to be flipped half way through, their album art and liners notes are small, their sound quality when played in the vast majority of tape players out there is meh.

About the only thing going for them is their portability, durability and the ability to easily record things none of which has been needed since the 2000's and the widespread use of USB and flash storage.

I have a bunch of tapes I'd love to listen to but I have no player to play them on as my last remaining walkman stopped working ages ago.

I have a bunch of stuff on tape I never upgraded (a couple of greatest hits tapes from various artists, Janet Jackson's Velvet Rope, some Black Flagg and Rollins Band stuff, and a bunch of soundtrack albums) and a bunch of singles.

I have a lot of nostalgia for tapes and cassettes. Would love to make new mix tapes but it's a hassle especially converting shit from digital to CD to record said CD songs onto tape.

As an amature musician I do find tapes facinating, there's a lot you can do with tape cassettes. I want one of those Tascam multitrack recorders to make music with. On Ebay right now you can find some that go for about $150. You can also do cool experiments with tape loops and dictaphones/tape recorders. You can usually find them pretty cheap on Ebay too. Practically they obviously aren't better than digital recording software sound wise and from an eaee of use standpoint, but for me I think analog recording like this has a certain charm to it which I think is just neat.
