Is it possible to run a successful commune without it being a cult (i.e. Jonestown or Rajneeshpuram), getting Waco'd/Ruby Ridge'd/purged by the government, overrun by criminals, infested with glowies or hippies, engaging in child abuse, or Amish? Are there any examples of successful communes?

The closest thing I could find is the Federation of Egalitarian Communities in the US, but they are firmly in the hippie category.

I just want to have intentional community, freedom of association, guns, electricity, the ability to live out life in accordance to your own values, freedom from forced compliance with the great Satan that is the government, and homemade cheese with heirloom tomatoes, man.

You need a few things to start a functioning commune OP.

1) An ideology that the commune rallies around. There will be bad days and there needs to be some reason people want to contribute to the whole for. This is the hardest for right wing communes because unlike communism you cannot demand another's labor under the pretext of freedom.
2) A method of resolving internal conflicts without needing to resort to external authority like the police. Left wing communes are really bad at this and they either dissolve, fall into a cultish one-tyrannical-leader (or leader + cronies) or both. See Tranch.
3) A method of transferring power/wealth/ideology over generations. At least if you want to make a lasting impact. See the mormons for this.

One of your criterias is that it should be immune to glowie attacks, as if that's something that can be predicted in advance. If you want a community like that, you are going to have to take a chance. If there are successful parallel societies, they probably don't want people who only show up when the hard work is done.

There is one in Eastern Oklahoma that is associated with the Christian Identity movement. It has existed fairly quietly for quite a while. Elobim city. It is odd that they have never had any major standoffs considering who they have had as guests in the past. I've also heard they have some odd religious practices and mandatory church services for all residents, but I guess that is unavoidable for a religiously themed community. As for whether or not you consider CI a cult, is in the eye of the beholder.

The best you can is settle in some bumfuck nowhere outside the USA where the land doesn't cost shit, fuel is cheap, and the local government won't notice you as long as you don't do anything too drastic and pack as much guns as possible once criminals around the area take notice. You'd need to be able to manage a few years before you are stable, but the commune won't survive once the next generation takes over and decides it rather have the luxury of the big city.

I guess maybe, some native american tribes were probably close to what we would think of as a commune. I don't think you can have any group though without a clear leader emerging over time. Whether that becomes a cult or not I think depends on how the whole project is started and the issue with pretty much all modern communes is they're founded on a pretty clear premise of "us vs the world". That makes it real easy for an initial leader to portray the savior/protector that all cult leaders tell their followers that they are.
