I took a look on YBZ’s Jawbreakers GB Indiegogo page. Indeed, patience is really wearing thin and has been for a while (a couple of recent shills/fluffers aside). What has caused my opinion of him to plummet is how blase the twat is over his project being so late and his matter-of-fact responses to people wanting to know where his product is.

Seeing how much time he is able to spend on YouTube must be like salt in the wounds. I’d rather radio silence from him if I was a concerned punter; at least then I could tell myself he was knuckling down hard to get the job done, instead of seeing him shitpost hard about other people’s comics on YouTube in-between hobo burrito trips.

I know the CG faithful will try and claim that two data points don't point to a trend, but I've theorized that all the CG infighting and posturing is ultimately deleterious to productivity. The ones that don't engage in that, and knuckle down at the work bench, are the ones shipping on time.

Though a distorted picture may come across to people who mostly just follow this thread, where I forego the nothing that went on in the latest JACK show that had 800 people in favor for something much more interesting like the inaugural Lola Meatz stream (where Phil Zaid is wondering if Lola is a catfish) that had 12 live viewers, badly faked DMs of Nasser Rabadi that got 15 likes by WC on twitter, or for that matter Preston Poulter's cease and desist filed at Vikki's partner in CG drama-aggregation DA Talks,

Overall though, I'd say right now there's the least infighting within Comicsgate at large than there has been since the founding of the movement, as Frog has declared to a weary people his vision of Comicsgate society as a form of Darwinist, free-market pluralism. It's a move that has been generally welcomed as old figures like JDA and Nasser return and others that walked away like Doug Ernst or J. Ishiro Finney seem more likely to both extend and be extended invitations from CG people once again. Even Mike S Miller made an appearance on the JACK show recently. There are exceptions to the acceptance of this new order, chiefly among fanatics like Sketch Therapy and Liam Gray as well as cliques that were formed during earlier times when the lines of division were much more distinct.

While Preston's actions get noticed, at the end of the day it's everything the "faction" can do to total past $10K in funding, placing "the Opposition" to the CG establishment somewhere around the Wart the Wizard franchise in terms of demonstrative economic clout. Guys like Dan Fraga or Graham Nolan by contrast are nearly invisible here but in terms of success and backers outnumber anything that could be described as "Anti-CG" dozens of times over.

Yet despite all this, there's been no commensurate surge in productivity. My own theory is that it's more an inherent issue with the choice of media used to build a customer base to self-market their comics (Youtube); campaigns are temporary in nature, while the need to maintain one's painstakingly built youtube following with a steady supply of content is continuous and neverending. Though one wouldn't expect it, the average Comicsgate project time span between campaign launch and campaign fulfillment is a little over 6 months (191( days); it's just that the most heavily marketed projects run on significantly longer.

I’d gladly wait 1-2 months; 3-6 max especially for a first-timer/first-time CG project, and if I was being updated frequently on status.

YBZ however is knocking on for 8 months late for J:GB and almost certainly will exceed 10-12 months late overall, if not more - and on top of that, the cunt is nonchalant regarding the complaints.

Perhaps the frustration is more that this dickwad was touted by others as the oracle; yet he couldn’t even foretell his backers how shite his own fulfilment would be.

Artists are lazy and without a hard deadlines with serious financial repercussions (often even with) they will not put in the time to do the hard work of actually getting the book done.

This is common accross the entire indy community. It's just not forgiven and enabled out of retarded tribal instincts as much as it is in CG.

Nothing in what you said makes me want to abandon my theory as to why there has been so many delays over the years. Certainly in years past, there's been a fuckton of infighting within CG. The infighting has clearly outweighed the productivity. While I agree correlation is not always causation, it sometimes can be.

Personally, I think Doug is an absolute fucking weirdo with a lot of strange ideas that go beyond just being a somewhat fringe Christian. That weirdness is also what fuels his creativity and in the end he sold me a professionally produced, fun to read graphic novel in a gorgeous package.

I don't watch his videos, I don't give a single shit about the drama he's involved with now or in the past, and I really don't care what other people think of him. As a customer, he gave me a good product in a timely fashion for a reasonable price. I didn't back BFB2 because of some cutbacks in discretionary income I made due to Covid stuff impacting my work, but I'd have no problem backing something he did in the future.

He may very well be a manipulative, backstabbing megalomaniac that justifies his bad behavior with his own piety by dovetailing his desires with the will of God, but HE MAKES A GOOD PRODUCT IN A TIMELY FASHION. If you want me to drop $60 on your book, you better be able to say the same.

I fully expect him to fulfill every single one of those campaigns even if they're all probably gonna be stupidly late. My issue is that he's making all the mistakes he made fun of other people doing in his videos, stretching himself too thin with all these campaigns, and ignoring good advice because he's too anal about the way he wants to do things. Nice guy, but man is he making a lot of dumb moves lately.

Yeah I say "right now" because there's always the possibility there could be even less infighting in the future, If Comicsgate was a completely dead movement for example, the infighting would be reduced to zero.

Nasser Rabadi is in at least 3-4 retarded beefs at any given time but he meets deadline after deadline. Richard C Meyer calls on everyone to abandon social media and hermetically seal themselves from online conflict but that doesn't stop him from sitting around with a thumb up his ass while taking handfuls of "go pills" as due dates come and go. TUG may be a full lolcow and is usually wristdeep in gayops, but he has never missed a deadline. Meanwhile, Mitch Breitweiser didn't exactly get a turbocharge in productivity either when he went "dark" and abandoned all interaction on social media..

Anyways, I tossed up a full writeup with a complete spreadsheet of project lengths and due dates back in February. Platform size seems like a much stronger corollary to the length of time to fulfill the project than anything else.

A good litmus test for this will be measuring Doug TenNapel pre and post-explosion in social media popularity and seeing if this impacts his productivity. Whenever he decides to stop trying to recapture his online momentum and go back to making comics that is

At best, he only deserved a small amount of sympathy for him for doing something embarrassing in his past (which he was perfectly content to share with people), but he was stupid for thinking he could make a name for himself on the Internet and not have that come back to haunt him. There are 3 "After Porn Ends" documentaries that all tell the same story. Someone was going to come across it, and when you step on peoples' toes like he has been, the number of people who will taunt you for something so embarrassing grows exponentially.

my biggest problem with Zach aside from his super late books is the lack of quality in his products. Out of all the books I buy from independent creators, Zach’s books are the poorest quality. It’s like he picks the cheapest option to print his books, even big ticket item Jawbreakers, the book felt very shoddy. In fact, the first Jawbreakers book came me to a little warped and wavy like it got wet while in transit to me. The second Jawbreakers book came to me in this weird shrink wrap instead of a plastic sleeve and backboard like I am accustomed to when I receive books from other creators. The last book I got from him didn’t even come with sleeve or anything to protect it aside from the Jiffy mailer.

Feel for ya bud! If it makes you feel better, at least your pile of useless/nonexistent CG comics is much smaller and easier to manage than my own giant pile of terrible 90s comics in my attic.

I looked at them recently while up there looking for something else, and was overwhelmed with shame and regret at the wasted money. I lamented poisoning my own brain with such worthless, useless hack work, that grossly misled me about what good comics are.

I would strongly suggest donating the comics of shame and getting a tax write off on them instead of burning them. If the books truly need to be burned a military charity would work as worst comes to worst the comics can serve as emergency kindling and/or TP and you still get the tax write off.

YBZ went overboard with one too many projects in 2020 and this is biting him in the ass. He is clearly doing what Rob Liefeld was in the 90's and does not understand where it failed.
He says he will start doing his more weird stuff on Patreon while only doing prints for the bigger projects so he might save his brand at some point.
