Nah, my audience has grown substantially. You can see it in the livestreams. You're referring to "backers", but I gave my backers a subscription that would make it so they only had to back once.

Oh, you're going by total raised instead of number of copies sold. Raising the price to $200 certainly helped. $500 for the next one?

Taking a break from @FROG 's gloating, there's another member of Comicsgate who is feeling abit down. Poor Liam Gray seems to be experiencing an existential crisis over comparing the success of his comic Xenotype to the success of e-thots.

So what has got young Liam's knickers in a knot? Xenotype did remarkable well for a first time crowdfunder.
*$76,788 raised in his own Australian currency, 278% funded.
*$49,636 raised in American currency, for comparison to US campaigns.
*520 backers.
So what went wrong? In my opinion these numbers are not looking so good for Liam as we might initially think. Liam made two of the same mistakes Cridious made on his campaign. Having a large trade (200 pages in Liams case) being the first mistake and multiple options for the book including: a black and white manga style, a full color graphic novel and a preview floppy comic as the second.
His printing costs are going to be exacerbated by having to provide these three different variants to his backers, instead of just going with one. He may even have to go through two different printers with shipping costs to provide all three.
However its not just the books that are the problem, Liam's own currency the Australian dollar has been in free-fall over the past several years against the greenback.
His been collecting his backers money in AUD, which is losing its value over time. Australia's economy is thought to be heading into a recession in the near future due to a variety of factors including a slowdown in China, the corona-virus and poor consumer spending. The money he has collected might be worth even less when it comes time to fulfill his book. Liam was also lambasting his Australian audience recently on one of his streams because of all his customers, eight Australian's had bought his book.
Speaking of his book it is priced far too high for what his providing.
*$45 USD/$69 AUD for the basic tier B&W manga.
*$70 USD/$108 AUD for the colored graphic novel.
A viewer in one of his streams had pointed out that Liam also botched his shipping prices by offering the international shipping as standard. Meaning that backers in Australia that might receive a cheaper domestic rate are also paying the same price as backers from other countries. I've set my VPN and provided an address in Sydney to prove this point.
Bear in mind Sydney is a few hours drive from Grafton (Liam's home town) yet the shipping costs are extremely high for domestic postage inflating the basic manga and graphic novel tiers even higher.
Hows that in comparison to other manga? Heres Berserk Deluxe Edition Volume 4 available for $7 dearer to Australians.
Notice it is over 700 pages compared to Liams 200. Berserk also is an established IP with a large cult following who recommend it to everyone from Ya Boi Zack, Comic Tropes and Jon Del Arroz.
Liam's problem is unique to the rest of Comicsgate considering that he is not competing against Marvel and DC, he is competing against Shonen Jump and other Japanese publishers who provide a far better product than he can and at a FAR better price.
TLDR: I believe Liams ineptitude at pricing shipping, pricing his books, competing in a already highly competitive manga market, with multiple variants of the same product, with a crashing Australian dollar, with a downturn in the economy is going to spell doom for him and his campaign. If he actually manages to fulfill it, his profit margins will be tiny. If he fucks it up, he'll end up the next Cridious. I think this has already started to dawn on him given his tweets and more recent livestreams.

Yea, there's no way the 200 pager will see the light of day, none. Specifically the non manga one. Bet he fulfills the preview book and then starts another campaign.
@FROG I'll say this about your toad book, by having a weird alien/monster character as lead at least we don't have to see your terrible, stiff interpretation of human anatomy anymore. Thank Christ.

Didn't it turn out that the prices for middleman was like 24 dollars that Ethan is selling them on eBay for 25.99? Lmfao. He would've made more if the book wasn't bogged down to variant cover hell and collecting and selling comics is pretty much dead unless it's a classic from the gold and silver age, the 90s to now you'll be lucky to pay a phone bill.
So Ethan is happy to get 790k but wasn't he talking big shit to get a million two weeks ago? I'm not sure why Ethan has a homosexual feelings for someone that he made fun of having cancer like tess flower. If ethan's audience is "growing" maybe he should put up his subscriber count

$45 bucks for a 200pg B&W manga is a huge fucking asking price. There are libraries worth of omnibus manga series you can pick up at bargain basement prices. I can have any of those manga delivered tomorrow for less than half the price with tons of positive reviews from actual readers.
Competing in the CG circle jerk for weebs paypig money is retarded as hell. Id love to know how much of this xenotype book is already complete. Having a colored version is competing against yourself for the same piece of the pie.
I doubt this book will ever be delivered. Won't be the first over ambitious campaign to fuck itself though.

Damn I completely forgot about that campaign, 3.4 million is insane for a crowdfunder! That must be one of the largest in history, not that I'm really familiar with crowdfunding records but it seems like a lot.
I also noticed Doug TenNapel post this on twitter not too long ago.
Seems like Todd is a fan of his.
