I don't think this was the always case , but currently seems like the character limit for "Signature" as well as for the "About you" sections are of 20000 characters.

Yeah, but DMs get automatically deleted after a month of inactivity.
It's also possible that things change in the forum or Xenforo and get deleted for X reasons (expected to be uncommon).
