Frasier, Friends, and Seinfeld were like juggernauts.Fraser holds up since the humor is based on the main character's faults rather than popular culture. The references that do appear in the show tend towards classical books, music, and psychology so it is largely timeless.
no bullshit it's downright eerie to see the bizarro world where it's exactly the same but russianIn Soviet Russia, children are married with you!
I had a PTSD style flashback to the 2000s reading that.In Soviet Russia, children are married with you!
To be fair, The Jerk is not funny. There's that Freaks and Geeks episode where a guy takes his date to see the Steve Martin classic The Jerk and the chick is just not into it. It's like that. Comedy is almost like a secret language.
And somehow aged incredibly because it goes against Woke society harder than any culture warrior ever did.Married With Children is the greatest American sitcom ever made. It was absolutely HILARIOUS.
Jenna Maroney has done more damage to Mickey Rourke’s legacy than plastic surgery and Dennis Rodman combined. Also, 30 Rock is one of my favorite sitcoms and Jenna Maroney is probably my favorite character
In Living Color? In Living Color.

While I'm at it here's SNL ripping NBC for cancelling Star Trek, not even ten years after it was cancelled. (Also probably ripping on William Shatner too, since Aykroyd and Belushi were huge fucking nerds.) I can't help but think that one Voyager episode where they encounter a truck in space is a reference to this.

William Shatner's counterattack. I can't find the full clip rn.
Unrelated but who cares.

While I'm at it have some Spock on Carol Burnett, from when TOS was still running.

I guess Carol Burnett did a lot of these, one of the sketches included in this video is from a brief revival in 1992.

I do like a lot of Carol Burnett but it may not be considered that funny now.
Comedy in this country is emergency triage, just like everything else. I read that The Three Stooges weren’t beloved because they were brilliant comedians, they were beloved because they were cheap. Like, economically. A guy getting poked in the eye was the only thing between a coal miner and complete psychic collapse. Was classic American comedy ever funny?
I thought him being raised a poor Black boy in Mississippi was funny. To be fair, The Jerk is not funny.
But one of his other movies, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, absolutely IS funny. To be fair, The Jerk is not funny.
tbh I have various sensible chuckles about The Jerk but I have more fun with my wife and I quoting it at each otherI thought him being raised a poor Black boy in Mississippi was funny.
I have always said Saturday Night Live is only good in past tense, or through those Best of episodesSaturday Night Live has always been hit or miss, even in the "good years" that people talk about.
It just had really popular comedians that were apparently funnier, but it still had less funny skits throughout.
I mean they basically made The Will they Wont They. And then they showed us in season two why you don't have the Will they Wont they get together before the end. But season 3 gave us Frasier so I can't complain too muchThe first season of Cheers is like nothing else on television. The show's creators had a very specific vision of what they wanted the show to be, and got one season before it started flanderizing itself.
To be fair, The Jerk is not funny.
