I can't find the old 90s sitcom thread, so I pick this one.
So I'm trying to watch Unhappily Ever After and think the premise makes most of the jokes not work. Now, in Married with Children, despite all the barbs they throw at each other, deep down the Bundy's care about each other enough to gang up on outsiders and maintain the family unit. The premise of UEA is they're getting a divorce, so all the barbs are just hostility. When the jokes don't land, I just see the horrible tragedy of a marriage dying in the slowest, most painful way possible. I understand why Peggy gets jealous despite making fun of Al's performance, but when the ex-wife (I didn't bother to remember her name) gets jealous of Jack's dating life, I just want her to die because her jealousy comes from spite, not love. Peggy loves Al in the same way people love old broken-in leather jackets; they fit perfectly despite all the cracks and lack of shine. The ex-wife just has a lingering sexual attraction out of habit, but is just a terrible person.
Mr. Floppy makes that show work if at all. I know everyone likes looking at Nikki Cox, but her character is basically a Class of '09 character, but less interesting because Jack is pretty hard to manipulate; he's broke and isn't going to pay for a trip to France. Kelly got the right debuff as her ditziness made her endearing. Tiffany's debuff is her conceited attitude, so like Nicole from Class of 09, she's a total bitch.
I only remember this show's existence because of Ryan trying to be a vampire slayer, but failing and he kept stabbing the school janitor.
