#ArtHoe is a tag/movement that seemed to crop up in small amounts on tumblr the past one or two years.

Since then it's developed a good amount of popularity, and has been covered in media outlets like The Guardian and Dazed.

This group was originally the idea of sensitiveblackperson, who stated that it had been created to 'eradicate stereotypes POC have to endure.' However, they also said that they didn't mind if white people joined, because the movement was still made for POC by POC.

But what was originally intended as a movement to mainly feature artists that weren't white, eventually became a tag to just post pictures of art and stylish things. Almost like the next evolution of hipster.

Seems pretty harmless. But POC Art Hoes aren't pleased. The white people who post in the tag are appropriating a POC group, and are making the Art Hoe lifestyle unattainable with expensive art supplies and fashion.

A lot of these posts seem to be popping up more and more, with some resulting in death threats when the topic is discussed.

It's not the biggest schism on tumblr, but I thought it was fairly interesting.
 
I'm surprised these snowflakes are okay using the word "hoes" in the first place, because that word is OPPRESSIVE to women.
"I'm getting to the point where I started getting death threats". Always the bullshit someone says when they have embarrassed themselves and want to run away from the drama they started and lost to.
 
I like how the original post doesn't actually define what "art hoe" is, and yet people still get mad that it's being co-opted. If you want people to follow your rules then your thing needs to have at least some substance.

It should be noted that a majority of the top art hoe posts are posts hating on white people.

I though hoe was misogynistic, according to most feminists. But like fuckboy, it's okay when Blac-POCs use it.
 
I'm really disappointed that this thread turned out to not be about art whores, who are people who will debase themselves artistically for money.

So two different groups of talentless "artists" are having a tug-of-war over a meaningless label, all because they desperately need a wall of bullshit to prop their art against instead of actually improving. And since race bloggers are involved, pretty much everything is getting fortified with "MY OPINIONS ARE EMPOWERMENT FOR ALL PEE OH SEE AND IF YOU DISAGREE YOU'RE RACIST".

Sounds like pretty standard stuff.
 
Only Tumblr could take something as innocent (if a bit pretentious) as "POC empowerment art" and somehow make it racist and oppressive based on something as fucking trivial as GODDAMN MARKERS.
 
So basically, this is soft grunge with more tumblr race wank? Huh.

If I was more motivated I'd make a dummy account and post some crappy pen&notebook paper buttdoodles in the tag, just to see what happens.
 
While I'm not the least bit surprised that it turned into this, I'm still disappointed. Giving exposure to artists that aren't white is a really good idea, and of course it turned into a bunch of spiteful bullshit. We just can't have nice things.

Why is it that these people can only see black people as poor, ultra-persecuted and/or victims? Middle class and higher black families do exist and its not impossible to buy those markers (you could get some used, for sale or save up for it).
 
Don't these spoiled brats realize that some of us work our asses off for our supplies?
Just because someone has a copic marker set doesn't mean they're wealthy. Maybe they put in extra hours at work to afford them?
 
I find the entire art hoe movement really cringeworthy and funny... Because it brings me back to when I was in high school, and I was all over buying copic markers and special paper and fancy pens and all of that, and doing shitty doodles of disembodied heads in sketch books. It continued for quite some time before I got into digital art, and now I've just got a lot of copic markers that I haven't used in quite some time that have probably dried out. I would have been all over this if it was around when I was that age and then I'd be making embarrassing blog posts too. :/

Anyway, I found some good posts in the tag.
