Of course civilization isn't unnatural, it's natural behavior for homo sapiens just as it's natural for beavers to build dams or bees to build hives or moose to live alone except in their first year of life. Even Howard's own muh superior natural barbarian Cimmerians had a civilization

I'm glad I have things like modern medicine, plumbing, and air conditioning,
Not targeting you directly- this line of thinking has been bothering me lately
So if society takes a shit, every man who works on hvac, on electricity, on plumbing, all the chemists- they will all die? What stops them from setting up their own services on the small scale?

Not that I am defending Howard's position, but based of his work tribes of people (he never defines how big is too big) can work, especially in a brutal meritocracy. The Conan stories seem to be distrusting of bureaucracy, which labels civilizations unnatural. Still, that is giving a lot of benefit of the doubt to Howard.

Now, I never got into Lovecraft's view of civilization. He also saw the fall of the West as inevitable, he was more upset about that than Howard. Lovecraft liked his position in Society when compared to the possibilities offered by the undeveloped world. Lovecraft was smart to assume if the West fell, his life would be a lot worse. He would not be spared. My guess is that Howard thought he might be spared. He did believe in past lives and wrote about being a barbarian a few lifetimes ago. Howard was autistic.

Admittedly, I'm not a fan of bloated bureaucracy, but a sane person would have to ask themselves if they wanted to get rid of it, what are your other options. For better or for worst, our modern day is the way it is because it causes the least amount of problems.

I don't mean that we should go back from our current state, I mean that if we never reached this state in the first place maybe things wouldn't be so fucked.

Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing
This is nonsense. Savages that are stronger don't have to be polite either, because they can split your skull first.

The whole comment is posturing that is only possible from the security of having some form of civilization.

Also for the bigger topic, let's say civilization is unnatural. So what? So is the internet.

And no civilization isnt on the verge of collapse. It's just the 80/20 going haywire continuously and there hasn't been enough destruction to reset the credit for most people. The reason boomers had it good is because world war 2 reset a lot.
