Christian theology thread for Christians - Deus homo factus est naturam erante, mundus renovatus est a Christo regnante

What I meant by this was for us to be omnipotent, omniscient, and omnibenevolent, and to be able to create our own universes and such.

When I asked why we couldn't become like angels, it wasn't necessarily in a greater or less great sense. Why do we have to be significant? Why can't we consent to being a human or an angel or being able to switch between them?

But why? What I'm trying to say is, why can't we be God other than "He just said we can't, okay?"
I thank God daily I'm not him and thank him for all the work his ass does eternally, I get free air every day. Think how momentous it is for God to take a break that he told us he rested on the seventh day, he admits that creating and ordering everything was so much work he got tired.. now imagine maintaining that creation for eternity... I'm all set just being a shit-posting human.

These are my favorite passages from the Gospels. They are part of the main teachings of Jesus Christ, so shouldn't it be the central goal of any Christian to strive to behave this way? Why don't you love your enemies bros?

Day 249 - The fact that enemies of God must face is that modern civilization has conquered the world, but in doing so it has lost its soul. And in losing its soul it will lose the very world it gained...And as religion fades so will freedom, for only where the spirit of God is, is there liberty.

Day 250 - Love of self without love of God is selfishness; love of neighbor without love of God embraces only those who are pleasing to us, not those who are hateful.

God, in His perfect wisdom, created a universe where both salvation (election) and damnation (reprobation) would occur, and He did so with full knowledge and purpose. The "why" is considered beyond human comprehension but is trusted to be just and good from God.
For every thing a season and a place under Heaven. Though He knew us at the beginning before we were formed, He has given a time for us to live by faith. The Jews were shown signs and given the Law but fell so the Gentiles might be grafted in under Grace. This too was with the foreknowledge that once the full number has been brought in, they of the original vine may be grafted back in and take to it all the more readily. Those who have been forgiven of much love much while those who have been forgiven of little love little. This has been so that in the end, they may love greatly.

Though He knew us in the beginning, we are to be as adopted children rather than as slaves lest we live in fear. Fear is given its time to bestow obedience as humility is to fear God. Once one becomes obedient however, they need no longer fear but love. Sin exists so that mercy may be received but it's purpose is limited as we do not remain unruly forever. Every knee will bow but now we are granted opportunity to do so by our own choice with faith.

Some argue His foreknowledge eliminates free will and that we are just puppets. God is higher than us. Nothing is difficult for Him. If He writes a book, He can bring the characters out of it and make them real. Though we have our stories meticulously crafted, we are allowed to experience them and live this life to develop into the characters He wishes to make us into. In Psalms, it says you are gods, adopted children of the Most High, but you shall die like mortal men. Later on in the New Testament, we are told that Jesus died so too must those who follow him, sharing in death so that they may share in the resurrection. Death frees us of our sinful nature in this flesh but we are promised new flesh and in Revelation, a white stone with a new name no one knows.

The path of mercy has been prepared for us. The law is written in every man's heart with the Holy Spirit manifesting as our conscience. Even so, rather than slaves without choice, we are given opportunity to accept the mercy and love God by our own volition so that it may be genuine by our own heart. For such a choice to be possible, so too must the opportunity be to reject it no matter how bad it may be. That is why damnnation must exist. God does not wish to condemn but to give mercy.

Day 251 - Conversion can also occur among those who already have the faith. Christians can become real Christians, with less façade and more foundation. Catastrophe will divide them from the world, force them to declare their basic loyalties; it will revive shepherds who shepherd rather than administrate, reverse the proportion of saints and scholars in favor of saints, create more reapers for the harvest, more pillars of fire for the lukewarm; it will make the rich see that real wealth is in the service of the needy; and, above all else, it will make the glory of Christ's Cross shine out in a love of brethren for one another as true and loyal sons of God.

I would be more willing to trust in this, if the people who lobby so heavily for predestination did not always (whether verbally or nonverbally) place themselves among the elect. If they were given irrefutable foreknowledge that they were not among the elect, would they still trust the just and good nature of this "why" ?

Inb4 "The point is we dont know if we are elect or not, so we cant be proud or assume salvation."

Im aware, but so many calvinist (yes im using the term again) followers ive met clearly believe they are among the elect, some have even said so to me personally. Whether it was Calvin's intent originally or not, this has been the result ive observed.

Calvin grants Judas Iscariot the ground of free will in his actions as a tool of Satan, it is interesting to me that there is no predestination or "elect" argument when it comes to the pivotal moment that redeemed humanity: turning the Christ over to the Romans in the Garden of Gethsemane.... It begs the question: is Judas saved? He personally witnessed all the miracles besides the resurrection because he killed himself in the potter's field before it happened. Was Judas elect? If not, what qualifications exist to be elected?

Why don't you love your enemies bros?
People think "love" means liking someone and feeling positive emotions towards them...nobody's going to feel that way towards someone who wronged them badly enough to be their enemy.

Towards your enemies the type of love is a different and even more important one, charity. Loving your enemies means desiring the good for them, which means praying for them and anything that will help them to be saved. Could be prayers for repentance, working to change laws to outlaw their activities, even reporting someone to the police for a crime. I don't think it's coincidental Jesus also emphasizes the importance of prison ministry and prisons show up so frequently in the New Testament.

"Judge not" is another one that makes a lot more sense if you consider it means the state of someone's soul and not forming reasonable conclusions based on evidence. There's a specific sin in Catholicism called "rash judgment" in fact.

Day 252 - Love of God thus becomes the dominant passion of life; like every other worth-while love, it demands and inspires sacrifice. But love of God and man, as an ideal, has lately been replaces with the new ideal of tolerance which inspires no sacrifice. Why should any human being in the world be merely tolerated? What man has ever made a sacrifice in the name of tolerance? It leads men, instead, to express their own egotism in a book or a lecture that patronizes the downtrodden group. One of the cruelest things that can happen to a human being is to be tolerated. Never once did Our Lord say, "Tolerate your enemies!" But He did say, "Love your enemies; do good to them that hate you." (Matt. 5:44). Such love can be achieved only if we deliberately curb our fallen nature's animosities.

It kind of sucks the three wise guys had to leave after baby Jesus was born. I could see them protecting Him from King Herod, “Eyyy what are you tryin’ to do? This here’s the real king, ‘king’ Herod. You put your grubby mitts on our king I’ll put my meathooks on your neck. Comprende?”

"Far be it from You to do such a thing as this, to slay the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be as the wicked; far be it from You! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?” - Genesis 18:25

The frankincense was actually gabagool.

And possibly let vicious Herod, who is killing children, know where Jesus is? Trying to twist the Gospel into an action movie scene isn't a good thing to be doing.

Day 253 - If we use our lives for other purposes than those given by God, not only do we miss happiness, but we actually hurt ourselves and beget in us queer little "kinks."
