This isn't new, and he is regarded as extremely controversial within Orthodox clergy as well. Only ROCOR (as far as I know) is seeking canonization of him.

Hang in there, I got lucky and they were able to fit me in around Christmas.Well the OCIA period is coming up in 7 months.
In the meantime keep going to mass. Also if you haven't done it already set up an appointment to talk with your local priest. Mine was super chill and was very helpful in getting me to know the church better.
