I have to say it amazes me how many people in this thread don't understand or have an accurate view of the criminal justice system. Its NOT like it is on tv and movies and while there are very specific edge cases where people are sentenced to state hospitals, the majority of offenders are simply stuck into a a for-profit prison system where they are treated like garbage while the prison takes money from the state.

Chris will not have good representation and will therefore not get a good defense. He is poor and his no family that will come to his rescue. He will most likely perjure himself and may end up being held in contempt during the trial (if this goes to trial).

If he IS deemed mentally unable to assist in his own defense he will still end up locked up temporarily in a facility that will eventually rubber stamp his competency to stand trial and he will still end up in prison.

Not so sure on that. Quite a few of the guys who got caught on TCAP for example got back on the internet after they were released from prison, one guy even became a lolcow on Youtube for a bit. There might be monitoring of any online activity though. Might be something that is set as terms of parole.

Both of these incidents didn't actually result in bodily harm (he missed Snyder, and the pepper spray landed on the employee's shirt) and so it was treated as less serious by the justice system. Raping his elderly mother? A whole different ballgame.

Not this time. Previously, his actions were either due to him being a moron or being impulsive and a moron, and they didn’t really have any long-term effects. These crimes are serious and premeditated. I don’t know what the consequences will be, but he’s certainly not going to get out of it. It would undoubtedly be in everyone's best interest for that to occur. But I guess we will see. My skepticism is that if they'd let guys who used the internet to find kids to get with have access again after prison, I'm less sure that they would stop Chris given that his crime didn't really even involve the internet unless it is proven that someone directed him to do it. Supervised access probably wouldn't work for Chris since he rarely respects rules and boundaries, so I do think cutting the internet down for him would be best.

Most served actual time but far as I know they were placed under the supervision of a parole officer for the rest of their lives once they were out. Not as familiar with rules imposed for the duration of a suspended sentence and if it is harsher than probation after time served. It probably is harsher. But Chris would presumably be back online after he serves his sentence. I wouldn’t really even guess how long that sentence would be until I see what they charge him with. He is only 40 so I would expect to see him on the internet again someday unless he goes away for life under mental health care.
