Problem with that is there's no real way to tell if they're actually protecting him or resulting in any improved quality of life. They'd just be taking your money/items.

You're literally throwing money at complete strangers as a 'charitable donation', criminals at that, and hoping they accept to do anything. People in jail/prison are carnivoriously aggressive, hostile, tribalistic, and willing to take what they can from whomever they can. That's a very ignorant thing to say about people who are incarcerated. Honestly, your next door neighbor could say you punched them, or some internet jerks could deepfake your voice and have you admitting you fucked your mom (not saying thats what happened), and you could end up in this exact circumstance. Extended jail can happen to literally anyone at any time.
Chris will more than likely be kept isolated because he's trans, and because he's autistic. Jail is different from prison, in that you have way less privileges and less ability to move around. Women's jail is different from men's jail. People who are disruptively mentally ill are usually kept in solitary confinement and the women make little "families." Rape and abuse are not super common. Like if you have a bunky they will probably steal commissary from time to time. But mostly women work together in jails.
