Late reply, but the more I think about this, the more I realize it won't be a single knock-down drag-out conversation that pushes anyone over the fence.

Looking at my own inclinations and the inclinations I see around me, I believe it's less singular arguments and more... "societal inertia" that whittles away on people over time, and that's what drags them to one side or another.

During the Summer of Love, I went to one of the local protests to see what it was all about. A number of people there for the protest were genuine, and naively there in good faith: they truly believed they were protesting against excessive police force that undervalued black lives. Antifa showed up too, and deliberately took advantage of the genuine protestors, using them as meat shields, as they agitated things and turned the protest into a riot.

I managed to escape the crowd and get the fuck out of there before the protest completely turned into a riot, but on my way home, the evil of what I had seen stuck with me. I could not escape a line of thought: that antifa was going to successfully bait the police into responding with force, and antifa would make sure said police response killed someone innocent.

That didn't happen, fortunately, but for the next two weeks, "Four Dead in Ohio" was on my playlist, a lot. Those were a depressing and anxious two weeks.

Gay best friends were a must have accessory for all fashionable young women.

Even a lot of 'wholesome' family shows had anti-family messaging. The Brady Bunch made blended families appear to have nothing but positives. Family Ties promoted the sixties counterculture movement as having been 100% good and wholesome. Full House was completely normalising the idea of kids doing great with multiple dads. I know a huge amount of these set ups are because a tv show has to have some sort of unique selling point; Ordinary Family living Ordinary Life, isn't much of a hook in a competitive market and even if you did centre it on a nuclear family, you had to have something different about them, like Mom goes to work while Dad stays home! But overall, the end result was a western population that stopped seeing the full value of traditional households and that other set-ups were, at best - less than ideal, but in general - actively damaging.
