I doubt Lurch has it in him to make it through basic training. He's spent the last few years getting increasingly out of shape and spends most of his time obsessing about his fetishes. He's petulant and thoroughly spoiled. To put it plainly, he's in neither the psychological or physical shape for a successful enlistment. And how is he going to join? As an officer? As enlisted?
He made it through West Point, but that was a long time ago and he was a different person. I think it's just something he's saying to biggen himself up and he has zero intention of any follow-through. He's getting too much money and too much attention from his current grift.
