Given all the death-baiting only for something comedic to happen instead, I could see it.
I still think it's setting up for some horrific gut punch where shit absolutely hits the fan and gets dark fast, much like Katana Man from part 1. Fujimoto seems to like doing that quite a bit.

Oh, we’re all expecting the absolute devastation. It’s why the fakeouts are so effective: because we know they won’t be fake soon enough.

I mean we did technically get the death of the school shooter friend by fake Chainsaw Man or whatever that was, but yeah. The big stuff is a’coming.

Okay, yeah. We’ve DEFINITELY hit that part of the manga.

Her caretaker as a child straight up murdered her cat rather than take it to a damn shelter. I'm getting shades of Fire Punch with this second arc. Feels a bit heavy handed with its edginess.
I dunno, I can totally see someone being like that “If I’m not happy, no one else can be because fuck em.”

Hell, just look at Twitter.

I was worried we have a new kill em all (kinda hard when your cast is two characters, a guy that I keep forgetting exists and a god mode little girl) but it's just an edgy flashback. I don't get how the devil triggered it, but it's on a pretty massive power level so it might just trigger fear by proximity.

Falling seems to have control of the concept of “falling”, so not only can she make people physically fall, she can essentially send them into a massively depressive episode by making their mood “fall”. Probably can do the same with self-esteem, courage, will to fight, ect. So you get in a bad, dark mood, you remember shitty things that happened that continue to drag you down.

A terrifying level of power, honestly. It’s like an evil Stand.

It's like Darkness, a primeval fear of most living beings. Even other basic things like famine are complex enough to have you only think about them in specific situations.

I don't see what's so edgy; every story about orphans always has some asshole kicking em for no reason. That's totally conventional.
Denji's backstory was basically that times a thousand. At least she still has both her testicles

I guess that explains why Asa is such a femcel.
