Naomi was the prettier and more talented one, that's a fact. I can't get behind Nicole Kidman. She was fine in Batman, but not memorably so.

I love how in Tank Girl they tried to kind of ugly her up with the hair and glasses, but she still looked good.

Kerri Hoskins, the original mocap actor for Sonya Blade!
No martial arts background, no athletic pedigree, just somehow convincing as a cheerleader or a soldier, which got her tapped by Midway for a string of digitized sprite gigs: NBA Jam, Mortal Kombat, and then the black sheep, Revolution X, the Aerosmith licensed game.

Kerri’s great as a Battletoads-style bad bitch, yelling at you on game-over screens and monitors in a bad Cockney accent.
She still does meet-and-greets for old-school MK fans and talks about how she regrets being replaced by 3D models. Voice actors have fans too...but she’s right in the sense that her Sonya is definitive. Tricia Helfer came close to bringing back that classic feel.
More trivia: Sonya was based on those Cynthia Rothrock characters, which meant she had to throw devastating high kicks. She couldn’t reach Rothrock levels (she admits she bluffed her way through rehearsals) but thanks to a rare genetic defect she was unnaturally limber.
She only realized something was wrong with her muscles after delivering twin boys prematurely. Between their nonstop medical needs and her own health issues she had to bow out of modeling, but she can still fit into the Sonya Blade costume.

Oh, that reminds me of something. My favorite Street Fighter character to me was Cammy and Kylie Minogue in that role.
I loved Chun Li, but Cammy had the coolest outfit and the coolest look. Especially the leotard and beret combined with the boots. And as a girl video game fan, it was cool to be able to play a fighting girl character so I always chose her.

Years ago Justin Wong was posting videos trying to beat Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game, and Kylie would molest him every time.
Either they were massively overcompensating for low-tier SF II Cammy or they confused her with Rolento. She spams grenades and whip attacks until you're dead.

I want to issue a minor correction: Elizabeth Malecki was the original Sonya, the actual jacked Sonya. Technically Kerri Hoskins played her the longest, because she did all those live tour appearances like Mortal Kombat on Ice or whatever they were doing.
Why did they swap out muscle girl Sonya for some random Playboy model? It was like a Crispin Glover situation: they reused her likeness (Shao Khan was holding her hostage between Mortal Kombat 1 and 3) and she sued them. Along with the guy who played the original Shang Tsung.
Somehow Midway had already planned for this, so the case was thrown out.
Tax: I wonder what it felt like to be the coolest girl alive in 2008.
She dropped two decent tracks since then and I think they were remixes. Too bad the talented one is a pederast (who married a girl who looks just like Alice).

I think these two posts provide a wonderful study in opposites. Perhaps the reason Nicole Kidman is going deep down the plastic surgery hole is that she's simply continuing a trajectory. Here is Ms. Kidman when younger:
Now it's not really fair to judge anybody by Eighties hair but even accounting for that she's not a classic beauty. Later, Hollywood turns her into this:
Plastic surgery for her is likely just one more mile sign on her highway.
Meanwhile, Naomi Watts in Tank Girl as you mentioned it hit the ground running:
Like you say, even when they dress her as an oppressed mechanic, she's cute as Hell. So I guess for her the question "Do you want to have someone cut your skin open and pull it around a bit" is going to seem more radical to her than to the girl who started being transformed as a teen.
Also, I have to say personality makes a huge difference to attractiveness. Even in her super-glam peak I don't find Nicole Kidman especially attractive. In a still photo, sure, but in any role she just doesn't really feel that likeable. Her best role ever was To Die For because the character she's playing is supposed to be unlikeable. Meanwhile Lori Petti from the Tank Girl movie you talk about:
would not normally be my type. I don't generally go for the trashy punk look and she's also a little gaunt, tbh. And yet, she is so fucking full of charisma in that role, I do quite like her. Plus she has one of those voices with the female burr that's pretty hot.
The movie also has one of my favourite lines in cinema:
Look, just think of it as like when you lost your virginity. You just gotta look up and say 'Daddy, are you sure this is right?'

Woah, I take it back. Amazing what a different look can do. Yep - she looks great there.
I've never read them, only vaguely aware of it. The movie does not take itself super seriously nor does it have amazing production values. I found it kind of funny though. Lori Petti is superb in the role. Terrence Stamp is a little surreal. It's a very uneven movie and they put a lot of the comics art into the movie as inserts or interstitial narration. I actually have it on DVD, fwiw.
Well I doubt the look is similar. The SFX budget for this movie was not high. I found the rippers amusing though. "Crumpets and tea!"
Though on this I am probably the archetypal example of someone who has not read the books enjoying something and not knowing what the issue is so I'll just confine myself to saying Naomi Watts (Jet Girl) and Lori Petti are both very good in it.

The makeup on the kangaroos will ruin your day. It almost makes you grateful prosthetics went the way of the dinosaur, because CGI won't make you suffer like this.
Also, TIL Lori Petty was in Free Willy.

I want this style of knitwear to come back - tailored with little poofy sleeve caps and a delicate yoke.
@General Patton the black hair/blue eyes thing is the black Irish - we have a few in my family like this (all blokes, the women have redder hair for some reason.) This is the colouring they should have cast Snow White as.
