Modern animation is garbage and part of that is the art style but I think animation lost a lot of it’s soul when it started being done on computers. Nothing flows quite like those old Disney films and old timey animations and everything looks perfect (not actually perfect but without imperfections to give it the hand animated feel things used to have.)

Culture is caught in a nostalgia feedback loop, mostly thanks to the Internet. It's never been easier for someone to make animated content, however we're at a dead end in terms of innovation as the same generation raised on YouTube Poops and random humor bleeds into adult society.

People's favorite creators/animators of yore often just happened to be in the right place at the right time. Many were going to be architects, draftsmen, geologists, biologists, computer salesmen, so on and so forth. And for every success they had in life, they might have had ten failures. People only tend to remember the positive aspects; like comedians, a lot of people in the media industry have very sad stories.

Degeneracy is completely rampant now, yes. They're the only ones who will work for peanuts and it looks good on an investor report. There are directors out there who still have fetish art galleries up... those smart have never had a social media presence whatsoever. Something something furry fandom something Philistines something Grooming something something children's media.

Unless there's a major demand for cel animation and/or frame-by-frame animation to make a comeback, computer animation will reign supreme. It's cheaper, faster, and more accessible. Not to mention that most animation produced nowadays are outsourced to the Koreans.

If you want that style of animation to make a comeback, then support individuals and studios that excel in it.

This definitely isn't a bug, it's a feature. Every single artist I've talked to has said that corporations haaate paying for decent art, as it's an intangible product that no one can set a price tag on. With a tangible product they can at least say "If the supplier charges us $50 for a roll of copper that's what it costs." Pay too much for a slick logo or whatever and you can bet the bean counters are going to notice. So if you can alter the aesthetics to a point where anyone with a basic understanding of computer-based art tools can make it, then every artist you have is disposable, meaning they can't get all uppity and ask for more money or what have you. If you want a similar example do you really think Javascript is objectively a superior programming language, or is it because it's so simple that even the pajeets and diversity hires can use it?

I feel like most people who complain about this don't realize that use of a computer doesn't negate the quality of the animation. Disney has been using computer animation since Beauty and the Beast and used computer graphics for specific elements since the Dark Ages with films like Black Cauldron and Great Mouse Detective. You can do hand-drawn animation on a computer and it isn't all toonboom and flash shit.

While I prefer the unique cell look at the end of the day I think that a computer is a tool and when used well looks fantastic in its own right. Really the tool is never to blame, its the passion and creativity of those working on a project.

I think it comes down to what you are using and how you are using it. There are computer programs that allow you to sketch and animate like the old school hand drawn animators used to do. And then there are programs that work with a rig, a marionette essentially, and that tends to look a little stiffer.

Personally, I prefer hand drawn, whether on paper or on a computer. There really is something special about a moving picture drawn line by line with a human hand.

Animation corporations only care about quantity, not quality; and how they can sell products cheap easily. So it makes sense they'd want to make tools stupid easy to understand so they can attract slaves workers.

The downside to this is no one bothers to teach anything about form or art direction to the 'artists', so you get terrible content created on 'amazing computer programs', while the bean counters scratch their heads wondering why no one is paying to watch their garbage.

And guess who they blame? Certainly not the people who cheapened the system, cut out the art education, and slashed their employee's paychecks to minimum wage.
The artists are disposable, a dime a dozen. Hell, why not invest in AI-generated art and just cut out the artist entirely?

RTA was based so that actually sounds pretty cool to me. They aren’t even waiting to see what gets produced, they’re just assuming. I mean RTA is one of the few actually good and mostly wholesome shows Disney has churned out in a while. It had a great art style and animation, wonderful voice work, humor, but didn’t shy away from conflict or storytelling. I mean this show had a solid plot arc that spanned 3 seasons and balanced it well between plot and lighthearted episodes.

And did I mention just how pretty it looks?

It really is kinda sad C. H. Greenblat never achieved the same level of comedic genius that Chowder had. Harvey Beaks was okay and Jellystone is ehh + doesn't help he's got people on board claiming Hanna-Barbera characters are troons now. Idk Greenblat seems like a cool dude, just wish he'd make another show as good as Chowder and not... whatever Jellystone is.

Networks tell me that parents just want to put their kids down in front of a TV for X hours and not have the kid come away with any ideas. They don't want kids... asking a bunch of annoying questions.

Y'know, I have to thank Maxwell Atoms for cementing one of my beliefs: that animators shouldn't be foisting their personal beliefs on kids, whether they're dangerhaired pedo troons, or... whatever Adam Burton is. Some parents might neglect their role more than others*, but it's their role, not yours.

* Though TBH, the reeing of 'it's abusive to let kids watch TV' increasingly sounds like a cope by aging (wo)manchildren pissed off that the cartoons from their lost youth aren't made anymore.
