Selling toys is one thing. But even the power of Pixar couldn't generate Oscar buzz with the Cars series. It was a gone goose from the moment the idea was pitched. I still don't know anyone over the age of 10 that can get something out of it. Which is a shame since the franchise has the staple quality animation that we've come to expect from the company.

Cars just seemed uninteresting. Even when I was in the age demographic for the first movie, I just didn't think it looked interesting or memorable enough to watch. I finally saw Cars 1 a couple years ago, and I still don't remember the plot. Never saw Cars 2. I'm honestly don't know how Cars 3 will turn out. The visuals looked pretty stunning, and they made it look like the story will be going in a completely different direction tone-wise, which I'm honestly all for. This could either be pretty good, completely forgettable, or gloriously terrible. If I ever bother to see it, I'm hoping it'll be the latter, honestly. ;)

The plot was Doc Holiday, but with sentient cars instead of Micheal J Fox.

"Ooooh it's too dark for kids" Scream a generation of people who grew up with "The Dark Crystal" and apparently don't remember how pants wettingly sinister and sometimes downright terrifying that film was.

If the kids won't watch it since the adults will forbid them from going to the cinema...

Who will watch it

Chris? :optimistic:

Cars 2 was probably slightly better than the first Cars in my opinion, but I never liked Mater as a character.

Brave, now there was Pixar's second solid stinker. And because Cars, Brave, and Cars 2 all came out so close to each other I started considering it a fluke when a Pixar movie was good instead of bad.

My son was young enough that when Cars came out he was still in the "Everything with wheels that goes VROOM is AWESOME!" phase, so he loved the first one. I tried sitting thru the second one with him but ended up falling asleep during it, and missed it. By then he wasn't really into the franchise any more, but he was a Mater fan so he watched it. He hated it.

Personally, the biggest thing for me was that they put all that effort into what was basically a "boys only" movie, and this was after the "we have to make movies for ALL THE KIDS!!!1#" era. The fact that Pixar made a boy-centric movie was kinda cool, even if they didn't mean to make it that way. But this shit is just trying to pa Ser to the fans of the old movie and to try and get new fans to buy more shit. Uh huh. Try harder Pixar.

I already know what the Rule 34 looks like. Already.

In all seriousness I'm not going to harsh on a kids movie so much, because after all why does it really matter if I like it or not and why should anyone care, but this actually looks decent. Visually speaking.

New information just came out about the film.

TL;DR: A millennial is the villain. A spoiled car millennial.
