Is there confirmation that Ralph is actually still alive? I used to abuse benzos, and that's the kind of bender that can kill. His skin turning fucking purple is probably the result of a lack of oxygen in his blood brought on by him not breathing enough. CNS depressants do just that, and death from asphyxiation is how a lot of benzo overdoses end.
The fact that he was still awake and on stream when that started is another big red flag. It's harder to breathe when laying down, especially if you have six titties and 100lbs of gunt resting on your diaphragm, and ventilation slows further when you enter phases of deep sleep. He may well have taken another couple of pills between the end of stream and him getting into bed, too—benzos can cause compulsive redosing, often because you get so fucked up you can't tell how fucked up you are, so you become convinced the drugs have worn off and take another.
Ralph might be smothered to death in his sleep by his own gunt, right after threatening to cut it off. Fear the gunt—no man is safe from it, not even Ralph.
