Don't be so fixated on miles. If you're buying a 15-20 year old car, one with 100k miles will need the same kind of maintenance as one with 200k miles. Rubbers and plastics will degrade with age the same way regardless of miles necessitating the same kind of repairs. Only thing you might save out on are bearings.

If you want Toyota, check out the Pontiac Vibe. It's a rebranded Toyota Corolla and sometimes sell lower than their Toyota counterpart because of the name.
Again, I'm checking it out today. If it runs well, I'll take it. If it feels like it's shaking apart and the rubber is falling out, I leave it. I got a few options if it falls thru luckily

You can get the first gen Vibe GT trim with a 164 HP Toyota I4 and AWD! They only come in 6 speed. And there was a dealer option for a stupid charger too! 10/10 car if you don't mind looking poor

Actually it sold lol. Rn I'm in discussions with a guy about a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu, less than $ 3000, and less than 100k miles. 170 hp v6 too.
TBH I'd rather have a Camry with 200k miles on it than a Malibu with 100k. The Camry will still keep going years after the Malibu is fit only for the scrapyard (and a 2003 Malibu is probably only months away from that fate tbh).

Actually got to drive the Malibu yesterday. Purrs like a kitten. It's a bit bare bones, roll down window, that shit, a little beat up, but it sounds great and drives like a charm. It's definitely getting stickers though. Many memes will be had once I get done with the paperwork today. Also it's getting one of those 50 cal bullets for the antenna lol.

Average Malibu owner
Yeah I know lol (is that actually a stereotype?)

So I've had it for a day. Pros: runs amazing. The engine is simple and bulletproof. Plenty of power. Paint is good, AC is plenty cold, none of the windows are broken, radio and speakers sound great. Maneuvers well, and the 4 speed automatic transmission is smooth as silk.

Cons. Front turn signals need replacement. Dipshit kid put in LED's that use way less power, and its making both flash at the same time. Backs are fine, but the fronts gotta go. Which is gonna require dropping the bumper because they wanted this car to be sleek damn it, screw getting to the lights easy. Also gotta replace a light fixture, it got hit, and is held in by zipties lol. Also while cosmetic, it needs a antenna on the antenna stud. I want a 50 cal or something like it

If you actually want to listen to the radio don't do the 50 cal stud. The antenna is tuned to the coils inside your radio to pick up a quarter wavelength of an FM signal. For the LEDs, they need a ballast to keep them from blinking like crazy. For me, I'd rather just replace them with factory bulbs. Every car I've owned has had a 5 minute replacement job when they go out. Once, I replaced the DRLs on a newer Tahoe and that required taking out the fender liner and almost removing the tire. Modern cars ain't shit when they're used

Nice to know about the antenna. And yeah, I bought some factory bulbs. Was able to put it in the zip tied one easy, but the other one needs disassembly. I'm going to youtube it to see if there's a better way to get at it, but it looks crammed in man. Otherwise the car is solid. Very basic, but solid.

Anyone else like prewar cars?

I can't wait for the posts in 6 months time where @WelperHelper99 tells us that either the engine or the tranny in his Malibu completely shat the bed, because GM.
I actually got the turn lights working in the last hour lol. Dumb kid had stuck a wire in the fuse with the turn signals with a switch on the other end, I think to make them flash. Problem is it burnt out lol.

He doesn't have the 4L60e so he's probably in the green.
Nope. It's a 3.1L v6 putting out 170hp. Fast little bugger, I'll say that

Also the turn signals started glitching again. Yay. I have a faint idea what could have happened, turning on that light bar that getto kid added, but I'll check the fuse box this morning, as that fixed it yesterday.

Otherwise HotRod mechanically is sound. The engine hums and isn't loud, belts look new, and since it has a timing chain, I'm good for a long while.

The 4L60e is the tranny. Yours is the 4L40 or something, a transverse mounted autobox. 4L60 is in a lot of rear wheel drive GM cars and trucks that's known to slip in the trucks since it's underbuilt for those applications. Yeah your pushrod v6 should be solid though I'm not familiar with those v6.

Well it's certainly a 6 cylinder. And since it's a 03, the 4l40 is the only option. It drinks gas from that 14 gallon tank fast, but it's having no issues, unlike the electrical. Tl;Dr, the kid before me rigged the shit out of it for a now removed sound system and a LED light bar. Lots of fuses and relays I'm finding have burnt out because of it. I'm replacing them as I find them, now is the horn relay, which should be in in a few hours. BUT mechanically... it's bulletproof.
