Now unlike weasely Carney the Americans have been very vocal about exactly what they want, and it's directly related to CUSMA (even ignoring of course the entire point of the bridge is increased access between the two countries eg. CUSMA), plus alcohol back on shelves (CUSMA), plus he wants to get paid for the bridge (which Canada already paid for and will co-own with the states).

That means literally any "issue" being addressed would be 100% to the US benefit and have nothing to actually do with problems with the bridge. And since he folded on opening that means literally the only options are 1. Just don't open it or try and wait out Trump's presidency with fingers crossed (GG the wasted billions on the already over budget bridge), or concede and give Trump money for the bridge Canada paid for lol. The spin this "deal" (totally not a concession tho) that will be required to justify whatever anal fucking canada gets (for the thing already benefitting the states) will be seizure worthy.

Trump has also said for months he won't let it open but apparently Carney waited until the last day then shocked Pikachu face, the exact CUSMA strategy he used. Big businessman tho

Tristin Hopper, a conservative journalist with Canada's right-of-center National Post newspaper, recently published Don't Be Canada: How One Country Did Everything Wrong All At Once (Sutherland House, Toronto, 2025). Sacred cows are skewered in this scathing indictment of where Canada has been heading over the last decade or longer. Sadly, there is no sign that this woke lunacy will end anytime soon.

Much is crammed into this small book's 97 pages (excluding notes) plus a five-page introduction. There are eight chapters -- each devoted to a specific malady -- plus a conclusion.

Warranted criticism is levelled at assisted suicide, euphemistically labelled medical assistance in dying (MAiD), which has become a slippery slope; identity politics and the “diversity is our strength” fallacy, which has done much to disunite Canadians; and the exploding cost of real estate, in part attributed to the Liberal government's open borders policy which significantly increased the population and, in so doing, placed demand well in excess of supply, thus closing the door on home ownership for many post-boomers. And then there are the "safe injection sites" that not only enable continued drug abuse, but probably contribute to its spread, given that recipients often exchange their "safe supply" on the black market for heroin and fentanyl. Dealers then sell the "safe supply" to others and get them addicted. Additionally, Hopper targets the sex-change operations (aka "gender transitioning") even for minors; the censorship rage; and the soft-on-crime catch-and-release bail policies (supplemented by an unhealthy dose of "incarceration equity") that has only spiked the crime rate.

Every time someone asks me who I think is going to win the World Cup my response is "I have better things to do than watch a bunch of over paid niggers chase around a ball for 90 minutes". Not even Calgary will at this point. The occasional feeler via media article still goes out pushing for one, but after the last attempt by Calgary failed in 2018 any serious momentum for another died once the vested supporters realized they need to get through a municipal plebiscite on the issue. There's too much evidence showing hosting will at best break even, none of the benefits ever trickle down outside of business profits (mass transit improvements is a nothingburger with how decentralized sporting events are), and the events themselves are too expensive for the average person to remotely view in person.

Even if a plebiscite succeeds no mayor or city council wants to be on the hook selling an Olympic games that can barely squeak 50%+1 support, especially given the host of issues surrounding taxes, cost of living, and general housing affordability. You might sell the affluent gated communities, but the suburbs make or break political aspirations and most are strongly against any sort of international event needing taxpayer support. Hell even Vancouver is at best lukewarm now on the idea from what I've seen.
