I recently attended a chemistry conference in Toronto and while the attendees were mostly white with a reasonable asian / arab mix, the moment you stepped outside into the city itself it was jeet central. The Pearson airport was worse. My first steps in downtown off the train also featured a homeless guy screeching at trash cans. Oh Canada...

We all know that Reddit is super left wing by now, but ultranationalist types like Canadian liberals wouldn't think like this. All they see is a website that daddy liberals don't control, one that's from Am*rica no less. They'll probably block it briefly, and the roll it back almost immediately. (Also on a side note, even if a lot of these comparisons to authoritarian countries are very surface level. The fact Canada consistently is comparable to authoritarian countries should speak for itself).

Honestly I’d tell them to go to Costco and get a poutine. Or a New York Fries and get a poutine there, but it’s not as good as a properly made Costco one.
Though there’s a few Canadian restaurants named after places in America which are good, like Boston Pizza or Montanas. Last time I was there The Keg had good steak but it’s probably not as great as an American steakhouse. If you want a Canadian novelty there is BeaverTails which is basically a large flat deep fried pastry with either cinnamon sugar, chocolate goodies, or other toppings of your choice.
Generally the really good stuff ends up being exported to America as the creator gets stigmatized in Canada.
Oh I have endless border stories. The best was my uncle got his entire truck ripped apart, took the seats out and everything and then said he was good to go and he had to put the shit back together, his seat etc. by himself lol he was there for like 4 hours for completely no reason.
This happened to me & my (all white) concrete crew in a full-sized work van, full of tools, because one guy didnt have his ID. They even took our door-skins off. It was the last time we tried to save some time while driving from Sarnia to Windsor (or vice-versa) by crossing the border.
My (very white) sister used to live in a little town not too far from the border. She had 4 small kids, so she and her mother-in-law would go over to by cheap milk, then freeze it. They got caught bringing back a couple jugs too many, and must've got a flag on their plate. Because after that they just kept shredding the car every time they went until it was too much hassle and they just stopped going at all. Even though they were way too scared to dick around, at that point, and just wanted some cheaper groceries.
Both happened in the mid to late 2000's. It was CBSA, not the US border guys.
I know a couple kids that worked there fairly recently and everyone who works there are local American kids (almost all white) and they were constantly cleaning if they weren’t helping customers.

In the early and mid 90s I knew like 3 lower middle class families that still went on Cuba vacations every year or so. And this was the Maritimes, where almost everybody is kind of broke-asses.

A city Toronto sized you expect a good steakhouse, a highend burger place, pub food, maybe a seafood place. A few local chains you can't get anywhere else. Instead it's just the same generic global slop that you've had a hundred times before in a dozen different cities. But Toronto has just been mediocre. Barrie has better restaurants than Toronto.

Rough, was it one of those sandwiches? Even before 2016, I don't think I ever had one of them, as at the time Subway was both cheaper and higher quality. I honestly don't need more than 2 hands to count the times I've gone to Timmies. I've always found smaller, local coffee shops have vastly superior coffee, drinks and food to anything they put out before the RBI buyout.
If you ever get to try Java Moose in the Maritimes, go for it. I highly recommend it.
