Okay, so I know NOTHING about Gmod but there is this youtuber I watch who create videos of himself walking through what I assume to be custom maps and that has caught my attention. I would love to try on the animation, 3D modeling or mapping scene but I have zero clue on where to start . Also, I am working with a delicate laptop (that is at least capable of running Blender) .

I apologize if this question is somewhat confusing. Again, I do not know much about this scene but I am curious on seeing where it goes. I'd love to focus on Garry's Mod if it is useful for what I am wanting to achieve but, if there are better alternatives, please let me know!!

Thank you so much, in advance.

Animation and especially 3D stuff is on the more time consuming end of software related hobbies/professions to learn (compared to music and image compositing software), the steep learning curve is very steep. Just want to mention that so you know what you are getting yourself into.

For making/tweaking custom maps (for Source games), Hammer Editor is the only option.
For modeling I would start with Blender because it's free and got new updated tutorials on Youtube, so it is easier to learn it by yourself (compared to Maya, Modo or 3ds Max, which is only still used because of boomers).
If you are too lazy for Blender, but still want some nice camera angles of a map, you can just use Source filmmaker.
