At 1:37 there's an annotation that reads "Over 80% of Gen Z say online spaces strongly influence their cultural worldview".
Being raised on social media makes them culturally different from previous gens. Not even the advent of radio and later television had the same impact because those platforms are not interactive. They are passive entertainment. Doomscrolling and TikTok binging all day gives you a highly curated feed because the algorithm responds to your preferences and feeds you back an echo chamber. This is a lot different from television and radio, where is you did not like the song or program you could just switch stations until you found something you did like. There was no algorithm. Just whatever was on. You were exposed to new and diverse content with every switch of the dial, Algorithms just feed you more mukbangs, influencer slop and stupid people eating Tide pods.
A few of these girls cringe at some of these jokes. Gen Z is not very familiar with gallows humor and how joking about serious topics can actually help some people feel better. I'm reminded of the Gen Z stare in a way. When most of your interactions are via social media there's a disconnect between your online experiences as opposed to how real life interactions work with older gens.
