🐱 California city bans gender-specific words from city code

CatParty

Berkeley City Council has unanimously voted to eliminate gender-specific words from its municipal code.
The vote was on Tuesday and the idea was introduced by 23-year-old city council member Rigel Robinson.

"Language has power. The words we use are important," Robinson said. "It's not only timely, but necessary to make sure that our laws really speak for everyone."
Some of the changes include the word, "manhole" that will now be "maintenance hole."
A bondsman will become a "bondsperson." And fireman officially becomes firefighter.
The list goes on with other examples, including craftsmen, which becomes artisans.
Heirs is changed to beneficiaries. Manpower will now be "human effort" and pregnant woman is now pregnant employee.%INLINE%
We found a mix of reactions to these changes.
Supporters say the language tweaks make Berkeley more inclusive.
"If it makes the city happy I guess they can go ahead. They can change it to maintenance hole. I'm sure it wouldn't hurt anybody," said Erin Davis of Berkley.
"It sounds like they want to include everybody, including trans, the LGBTQ community that gets left out.
But not everyone was on the same page.
"No. Uh...I think it would remain the same. Why change it?" said Athena Addison of Berkeley.
"They come up with these cockamamie things all the time," said one unidentified older resident.
And at one Berkeley fraternity, Andrew Haits, a UC student had this reaction: "Come on. Enough is enough," he snickered. "I think they've gone too far. The reason why they're gender separated is because they are gender separated. Fraternities are male and sororities are female."
He's referring to fraternities and sororities, which will now be referred to as "collegiate Greek system residencies."
Berkeley's municipal code uses mostly male pronouns, such as "he", but the new code will switch from he and she to "they" when referring to individuals.
All forms generated by the city of Berkeley will soon have a space for people filling it out to designate which pronoun they prefer.
City officials said the cost of the changes is $600.

Gender signifiers in language is as important to us as time signifiers; we need them to organize our social worlds. Imagine a government outlawing the words breakfast, lunch, and supper, and mandating that everyone to replace these words with meal. People can no longer speak of daytime or nighttime, and parents will be fined for telling their kids, "it's already past bedtime", because everyone goes to bed at different times. The result will be absolute chaos.

I think they’re doing this because they have a limited set of vocabulary to form the Nu-Californian Engless.

Not really, many languages don't have those. Finnish and Estonian are nearly completely gender neutral, while, while in Spanish and French, all unanimate objects are either masculine or feminine. Piraha indios don't have words for time, or even numbers.

Doesn't stop anybody from fucking many tongues up too, 'latinx' is the best known example, but luckily, nobody in Spain talks this way (how's that even pronounced?), or since all nouns are gendered, he'd sound like a complete tard. But then, French schools use 'parent 1 and 2' instead of 'mom and dad' now (though that makes at least a little bit sense to me), and a German city replaced agent nouns like ''voters' with 'voting ones' because '-er' sounds like 'he' in German (what retarded logic).

Luckily, especially on the internet, everybody hates those who 'correct' other people's grammar, and stuff like this will only cause more backlashes against SJWism.

Portuguese is great for tranny's, as you say certain words differently depending on whether you yourself are male or female. For example, thank you, is either obrigado (male) or obrigada (female).

You never even have to ask pronouns.

I used to think California was gay, but it seems that 90% of the cancerous faggotry is concentrated in Berkeley. Melinda Scott needs to tell YAHVE to send a swarm of locusts to that shithole.

They'll just say 'obrigadx' and 'elx'. Since that cannot be pronounced, they don't talk at all and nobody has to listen to their crap.

Time for Calexit, clearly the cis white capitalist patriarchal racist superstate of the US of KKK A is letting this progressive state down. Become a republic,

This is so fucking stupid and defeats the entire purpose of written language. They're just over complicating things now. "Collegiate Greek system residencies", fucking seriously? That's a mouth full and a half when you just have to say one word. But no, we have to pander to the people who are more worried about getting their feelings hurt than worrying about things that actually matter. Fucking exceptional twats.

I keep hoping these articles are coming from The Onion, but each time it turns out they're real. God, I wish I could drink away my memory of California existing.

Heirs are by definition deceased and can include women.

That sounds very odd to me. Prince Big Ears is frequently referred to as the heir to the throne but the last time I looked under my bed he was still alive.
